An apple a day keeps the doctor away; but don't forget to eat the seeds. It turns out this old saw is true; thru a long winter an apple a day often kept our ancestors from a severe folate deficiency and the MANY problems associated with a lack of this and other essential B vitamins. Apples are anti-cancer, anti-viral and anti-bacterial.

Since most of us do not get enough fresh food today an apple a day should be still very much in vogue for us health conscious beings. Forget apple juice; you lose much of the nutrition.

    

Apples are an almost perfect snack

Low on the Glycemic Index (See Glycemic Index Protocol) high in both types of fiber, high in flavonoids (See flavonoid Protocol), high in minerals including the often hard to get boron (See Boron Protocol) apples are required for your health IMO. Apples are also a good source of malic acid a prime detoxification agent. Apples along with oranges, grapefruit and a few Cruciferous Vegetables (See Cruciferous Vegetables Protocol) contain D-glucarate a substance proven to aid your body in ridding itself of many dangerous substances including carcinogens.

   

The flesh of the apple is the LEAST nutritious part

The flesh of the apple is the LEAST nutritious part. The skin is often cited as having most of the nutrition HOWEVER IMO the core including the well chewed seeds is just as and perhaps MORE nutritious than the skin. The old wives tale about some apple seeds killing you is hogwash. I have been eating the WHOLE, well washed and dried apple, excluding only the stem for sixty five years, a trick my granddaddy taught me. Yes there may be a little cyanide in the seeds but there is also a lot of vitamins and minerals and there may be a LOT of anti-cancer and other protection in those same cyanide containing seeds. The Mormons think that a little cyanide-compounds in the form of vitamin B17 helps prevent cancer and IMO it might well help.

I eat at least an apple a day, often more. On some hikes in old apple orchard country I often eat dozens, seeds and all.

   

Quercetin an Apple Component

An apple a day will give you a little quercetin a key vitamin C component.

   

Malic Acid a Wonderful Detoxifier

Malic Acid readily crosses the Blood-Brain-Barrier and has been shown to bind to aluminum. It functions in the body by drawing aluminum away from the tubulin enzyme, so that Magnesium can plug into the receptor sites instead. Apples are rich in malic acid. Malic acid is a wonderful detoxification agent. An apple or two a day acts as an important part of your CONSTANT detoxification efforts.

    

Vitamin B17 in Apple Seeds

"Amygdalin contains a natural cyanide compound which is not toxic in the human body and this natural form of cyanide is of immense value in cancer treatment. The malignant cancer cell contains a special enzyme which releases the poison in amygdalin. The poison attacks the cancerous cell. Amygdalin is found in apple seeds as well as apricot, cherry, peach, plum and prune pits. IMO please don't pass up this powerful anti-malignancy mechanism that may be operative on much more than cancerous malignancy.  The Chinese have been using amygdalin for 5000 years.

Don't be afraid of a little cyanide; your wonderful body is quite adept at using VERY TOXIC substances in a highly controlled manner to get rid of all sorts of bad guys who find their way into your body. TRUST your body; feed it well and USE it. Do NOT trust NEEDLES, toxic drugs and medical charlatans.

  

Organic Apples are Best

The wild varieties had 475 times more phytonutrients! The Ginger Gold, a relatively new apple, has so few phytonutrients that it fails to even register on the scale. Throughout our history of cultivating apples, we’ve squandered a wealth of nutrients. One consequence is we may be more vulnerable to cancer. In a 1994 study, researchers compared Fuji apples, one of our most popular, with apples from two other species. The apples from the other species had five times more [phytonutrient] activity, including four times the vitamin E. They were [also] much more effective at fighting leukemia cells. IMO try and get most of your apples organic. I use mostly wild crab and wild apples whenever I can. Make sure to thoroughly wash and dry all your apples.

IMO try to eat apples that are closest to wild as you can. Only grow native crab apples if you are concerned about NUTRTIENTS in your apples. You can make a marvelous tasting crab apple sauce by experimenting with apple varieties, mostly native crabs.
