Oxidized LDL Cholesterol is the Best Predictor of Heart Disease

The fat soluble antioxidants, vitamins D, E and K, vitamin C and other antioxidants will insure the LDL packet lipoprotein membrane itself does not oxidize. It is the oxidization of the LDL membrane AND a shortage of Vitamin C, that often begins the atherosclerotic process. If we prevent this from happening we may prevent MUCH CVD CVD CVD as well as Atherosclerosis.  As we also see in the above diagram keeping your HDL high will also reduce your risk of CVD.

"Fat molecules are especially vulnerable to oxygen,71 which is found in abundance in arterial blood. This oxidized LDL will damage the walls of the artery. Most animals that produce ascorbate from glucose in their own bodies do NOT get Atherosclerosis. This is an important clue to Atherosclerosis. If YOU make sure YOU get at least 3 grams of ascorbate a day YOU will probably not get Atherosclerosis. It is just that simple. Of course there are LOTS of other things you SHOULD do to prevent 99%+ of possible Atherosclerosis.   

All of the current theories of atherogenesis posit some form of LDL particle entering the arterial wall. As Doctor Rath states above if we keep this from happening there will be no atherosclerosis. Vitamin C,  collagen, omega EFAs, vitamin K and preventing successful attacks on the vascular wall are the means to keep our vascular walls intact. 

Atherosclerosis is the process whereby arterial plaque builds up in your arteries, narrows the artery and can result in a heart attack or Stroke. This arterial plaque is often the result of oxidized LDL induced inflammation/infection in your arterial wall. A newly formed arterial plaque is primarily composed of lipoprotein(a), immune system proteins and fibrinogen /fibrin and not the natural saturated fat of animals, palm or coconut.

Poorly constructed arteries often result from a lack of vitamin C and (collagen) building materials and denatured omega 6 EFAs often from polyunsaturated commercially produced vegetable oils.

    

IMO most Atherosclerosis usually develops for Six reasons:

  1. Oxidative stress leads to the oxidation of LDL particles that have accumulated within the inner lining of the arterial wall (endothelium).
  2. Oxidized LDL and damaged endothelial cells trigger an inflammatory response in which immune cells (monocytes/macrophages) are recruited.
  3. The recruited macrophages ingest oxidized LDL and transform into “foam cells,” which accumulate within the endothelium to form plaque.
  4. Muscle cells in the artery then proliferate and secrete fibrous elements to form a “cap” around the plaque.

The result is stiffening of the arteries and impeding blood delivery to vulnerable tissues across the body, potentially producing heart attacks, strokes, and other manifestations of cardiovascular disease.

Pycnogenol acts to slow or stop multiple stages in the domino effect leading to cardiovascular disease, with impressive clinical results.4-6
