Citrus Fruit Protocol

     

MANY good things are contained in Citrus BUT you must eat the PEELS

    

"Hesperidin is a flavonoid found in citrus fruits. It is the predominant flavonoid in lemons and oranges. The peel and membranous parts of these fruits have the highest hesperidin concentrations. Therefore, orange juice containing pulp is richer in the flavonoids and hesperidin than that without pulp. Sweet oranges and tangelos are the richest dietary sources of hesperidin. Hesperidin is classified as a Citrus bioflavonoid. Hesperidin, in combination with a flavone glycoside called diosmin, is used in Europe for the treatment of venous insufficiency and hemorrhoids. Hesperidin, Rutin and other flavonoids thought to reduce capillary permeability and to have anti-inflammatory action were collectively known as vitamin P. These substances, however, are not vitamins and are no longer referred to, except in older literature, as vitamin P."   Hesperidin by Ray Sahelian, M.D

"In an article published online on July 10, 2009 in the journal Diabetes, researchers in Ontario, Canada report that naringenin, a flavonoid present in citrus fruit, prevents weight gain and components of metabolic syndrome, a precursor to diabetes, in a rodent model. The research team discovered that naringenin genetically reprograms the liver to burn extra fat as opposed to storing it. These studies show naringenin, through its insulin-like properties, corrects many of the metabolic disturbances linked to insulin resistance and represents a promising therapeutic approach for metabolic syndrome,"    Life Extension

“Citrus peel extract reduced serum triglycerides and cholesterol levels in hamsters; the results suggest that a daily supplement of citrus peel extract could improve insulin sensitivity in people.” Li et al

“Whole food vitamin C as found in potatoes, onions, and citrus fruits is able to quickly cure any case of scurvy. By contrast, the fractionated chemical ascorbic acid has been shown to be insufficient in resolving a scurvy condition, simply because it does not act as a nutrient.” Lancet 1842, Note ascorbic acid is NOT ascorbate or vitamin C it is a COMPONENT of the Vitamin C Complex Components

"Another way to flush toxins from your body is by oral chelation with citrus pectin. Citrus pectin is made from the inner peel of citrus fruits. It’s gentle on your system but hard to digest because the molecules are too big. Citrus Peel Extract has a strengthening effect on collagen (See Collagen Protocol) with a preference for veins. You can use lemon, orange or grapefruit peel extract. I often eat most of the peel of an orange and often the entire well washed peel or lemons and limes.

I wrote this protocol after spending a couple of months on anti-aging issues. I kept noticing the various citrus fruits and how MOST of the nutrients were in the peels. I have always believed in eating the skins and seeds of the fruit and many vegetables I eat every day but the revelation hit that the Citrus Fruit is no exception. Many of you may have issues digesting some of the citrus peels so start low go slow. I find cutting them up finely or putting them through a blender works well.

Eat the WHOLE Citrus Fruit Food

“Where you can find limonene? There’s plenty of it in lemons, oranges, limes, mandarins and many other citrus fruits. The name of the molecule actually comes from the word “lime.” Did you ever experienced the situation when you wanted to peel the orange and some juice got into your eye making it red and itchy? Yup, that’s limonene doing. The greatest amounts are in outer, coloured part of the rind. There’s almost no limonene in the white part of the peel, in the pulp there are only small amounts.”   Lemons & limes talk limonene!

"Even though the juicy flesh of fruit contains some fiber, most of the fiber is found in the peel. So whenever possible eat fruits and vegetables with the skin intact."   Prevention

Most of the goodies like the flavonoid (See Flavonoid Protocol) hesperidin, in citrus are in the skin and white rind (See Citrus Peel Extract Protocol). When I eat citrus often I wash it completely, dry it, cut off the imperfections on the skin and cut a slice or the WHOLE lemon into very SMALL pieces and put it in a shake or put it in my tea.

     

Eat the WHOLE Orange

"Oranges and citrus fruits are a complete package of cancer inhibitors."   William Fischer

“Orange and tangerine peel is high in powerful antioxidants called super-flavonoids, which can significantly reduce levels of ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol, without lowering the ‘good’ HDL levels. The antioxidants obtained from the peel were 20 times more ­powerful than those from the juice, according to a U.S. study. The same goes for all citrus fruits. The white pith ­contains high levels of pectin, a component of dietary fibre known to lower ­cholesterol and colonize the gut with beneficial bacteria.”    Eating fruit and vegetable peel could combat cancer

Eating small tangerines like an apple, after breaking it into sections which include both peel and fruit, is a good way to get into the important habit of eating citrus skins.

    

Citrus Fruit and Good Health

If you read this protocol and its Associated Protocols you will see Citrus Fruit can be an important part of your preventative health and treatment health. Just make sure you eat at least one piece of citrus and most or all of its  peel/day. Commercial fruit juice is usually not good.

    

Hesperidin and AMPK

Metabolic Syndrome can NOT be ignored you MUST solve and eliminate it from your LIFE. Metabolic Syndrome is almost always accompanied by a "beer belly" if allowed to progress it becomes almost impossible to resolve multiple health problems. Citrus, especially hesperidin, can help you with this important task. That "beer belly" is a mortal enemy folks; it is a breeding ground for never ending SYSTEMIC INFLAMMATION. That baby is churning out inflammation 24x7 folks; while you sleep it is slowly killing you.

         

Vitamin C Complex Components Protocol

  • Ascorbinogen    get from WHOLE, peels, seeds, integuments et al, of FRESH foods such as Lemons or citrus

  • Ascorbic Acid    Your body creates this from the Ascorbinogen you eat Three grams/day divided doses of one gram

  • Bilberry    a good flavonoid and more

  • Flavonoids

  • Hesperidin   a good flavonoid

  • Rutin   a good flavonoid

  • Quercetin   with bromelain for bioavailability, a good flavoniod

  • L-Tyrosine   often a deficiently produced amino acid in adults

  • Factor J   get from WHOLE, peels, seeds, integuments et al, of FRESH foods such as Lemons or citrus

  • Factor K   get from WHOLE, peels, seeds, integuments et al, of FRESH foods such as Lemons or citrus

  • Factor P   get from WHOLE, peels, seeds, integuments et al, of FRESH foods such as Lemons or citrus

  • Other factors   get from WHOLE, peels, seeds, integuments et al, of FRESH foods such as Lemons or citrus

Vitamin C is a complex of components or factors. If all you are taking is ascorbic acid you are taking only a PART of the vitamin C Complex. Your body will use the ascorbic acid to the best of its ability BUT without the adequate vitamin C complementary components, the ability of just ascorbic acid to do the complete vitamin C job is limited.    

Notice all the Citrus Fruit in this list. They are there because they are excellent easily obtained flavonoids.

All the flavonoids are very protective and restorative for your veins. If you are having any sort of problems with your veins please do not pass up any chance you have to EAT a good chunk, flesh AND skin of any citrus fruit you get your hands on. Yeah eating a lemon skin may not be pleasant BUT IMO it is far better than spending the rest of your life in a chair or worse. Just take a single bite to start. Be careful to protect your teeth from the acid by washing them with water immediately after.
