According to the Spanish research, eating dark chocolate reduces damage to the blood vessels of cirrhotic patients and also lowers blood pressure in the liver. Dark chocolate contains potent anti-oxidants which reduce the post-prandial (after-meal) blood pressure in the liver (or portal hypertension) associated with damaged liver blood vessels (endothelial dysfunction). The data also showed that eating dark chocolate may exert additional beneficial effects throughout the whole body. Cocoa  and its produced NO is very salubrious for your endothelial function. The endothelium is the part of your arteries that contacts the flowing blood. If you eat a DARK chocolate bar get one with a minimum of sugar (See Sugar Protocol). Some bars are 86% or more Cocoa. Low cocoa bars can be a nice treat but limit it. Candy bars are not the best way to use Cocoa. Adding sugar to Cocoa as in a candy bar can cut the Cocoa nutrition values by over 70%. Adding milk (See Milk Protocol) to Cocoa as in milk chocolate, can completely kill any health benefits. You want DARK chocolate not MILK chocolate. In processing the Cocoa with heat, as most candy manufactures do, up to half the flavanols can be destroyed.

  

Beware of some "Candy" Bars

Hershey's and other candy manufacturers are now removing the natural cocoa butter from the cocoa they use in some of their candy bars. The expensive cocoa butter is being sold separately. In place of the good cocoa fat Hershey's is adding toxic polyunsaturated vegetable oil.  Please read labels and remember even "real" milk chocolate is not so great as it contains mostly toxic sugar and toxic oxidized milk powder. IMO reject most inexpensive chocolate bars.

If you buy the 100% cocoa power you maximize your cocoa flavonols per dollar.

I make a drink with water and 100% Cocoa Powder. I sometimes sweeten the usually cold drink with Xylitol (See Xylitol Protocol) or a little dark molasses but often drink it unsweetened. This makes a healthy treat that is very good for you. Brush your teeth before drinking it and you will be giving your teeth and mouth an anti-gingivitis bath. Yep now that’s a treat for everyone.

This treat might be more healthy if I used cold processed Cocoa and when the price comes down I will. I am slightly allergic (See Allergy Protection Protocol) to the caffeine in Cocoa  and find I must eat it early in my day.
