"If I told you there was a drink that might reduce the risk of diabetes, Parkinson's, cirrhosis, gallstones and liver cancer, you might be surprised to find it in Starbucks. But coffee is such a significant source of antioxidants that it could feasibly claim to be a health beverage." Life Extension, Just remember the sugar and oxidized milk in your average cup of coffee can negate a lot of the benefits of the coffee bean flavonoids IMO
"Everyone has different reactions to caffeine. For people who rarely have coffee a cup or two can improve performance and memory. But if you drink coffee throughout the day you quickly build up tolerance and won't get the same benefits. In fact too much caffeine can make you jittery and reduce your concentration." Suzette Evans PhD
"The Dutch study tracked 37,514 people for 13 years in one of the biggest studies on coffee and tea drinking. Tea had a bigger impact than coffee. Those who drank between three and six cups of tea daily were 45 percent less likely to suffer coronary disease than those who drank less than one cup, while with heavy drinkers -- more than six cups -- the risk was reduced by 36 percent. The risk of heart disease was cut by 20 percent among those who drank two to four cups of coffee. The researchers noted coffee drinkers are more likely to smoke. Antioxidants in coffee and tea are responsible for the health benefits.” van der Schouw et al
“There’s plenty of evidence to show that drinking coffee is the great way for men to fluff up their erections and even put a little pizazz in your sex game. If you’re someone who gets jittery or anxious from coffee, it may have the exact opposite effect. That’s because increased anxiety can often lower your sex drive. It’s a frequent complaint of people with a sensitivity to caffeine. Intrigued?" What Happens to Your Body When You Drink Coffee.
"A growing body of literature suggests that moderate coffee consumption delivers a broad range of significant health benefits that go far beyond providing a morning pick-me-up. Researchers have established that coffee can promote cardiovascular and liver health, and has been found to reduce the risk of a variety of cancers. The fact that coffee has protective effects in so many areas indicates that it acts at fundamental cellular and molecular levels, meaning that it is likely to protect a wide range of tissues and organs. Two recent high-quality studies have shown that coffee has another valuable benefit: Consuming at least 1-2 cups per day can boost cognitive function and reduce the risk of cognitive decline,5,6 including Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia. [At consumption rates greater than three to four cups per day, some of the cognitive benefits begin to fall off, however, so moderate consumption remains the goal]." Brain-Boosting Benefits of Coffee
But are you drinking the right coffee in order to most effectively harness those impressive benefits? If you’re drinking standard supermarket roasts, you may not be deriving optimal benefits. That’s because modern roasting methods destroy an enormous amount of one of the key sources responsible for coffee’s benefits: polyphenols, particularly chlorogenic acid. ... Compared to conventionally processed coffee, this patented technique showed that the new beverages had a higher polyphenol content—representing approximately 250% more chlorogenic acid. As a result, these newer “polyphenol-retaining” coffees have the potential to deliver many of coffee’s impressive health benefits in less than half the number of cups." Brain-Boosting Benefits of Coffee
"Those who drank four or more cups of coffee a day were a whopping 39 percent less likely to develop tumors of the head and neck."

"Extensive epidemiological evidence had previously shown that a high level of coffee consumption lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes by 67%.34 This anti-diabetic effect appeared to result from reduced levels of blood glucose, increased insulin sensitivity, and decreased storage of both fat and carbohydrate. To scientists, this suggested that compounds in the coffee bean can somehow modify digestion or metabolism. It also suggested, confirmed by a later review,35 that the anti-diabetic benefit from coffee may stem from a weight-reducing effect—because excess weight is a well-known risk factor for diabetes. Further research, including a meta-analysis that combined data on over 450,000 people, discovered that decaffeinated coffee provided the same protective effects as caffeinated.36-40" Life Extension
"An exciting new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests that coffee drinking may add years to your life span.1 Evidence is rapidly accumulating about the ability of coffee to reduce vascular disease, slash cancer risk, preserve cognition, and mitigate diabetes/obesity.2 Rich in polyphenols, coffee contains over 1,000 different natural compounds3 that favorably interact within cells.4 Coffee has the proven ability to turn on genes that promote youthful cellular functions.4,5" National Institutes Of Health Discovers Protective Effects Of Coffee
"Green coffee beans may possess up to 10% of dry weight chlorogenic acids making coffee the major source of chlorogenic acid in the diet.21 Along with other polyphenols, chlorogenic acid helps drive down the chronic inflammation that's associated with common diseases of aging, such as diabetes and atherosclerosis.6 Chlorogenic acid derivatives in roasted coffee protect cells with high fat content, like brain cells, helping to explain observations that coffee sustains cognition.7" National Institutes Of Health Discovers Protective Effects Of Coffee
Coffee is the greatest source of antioxidants for the average American. I used to think this was a sorry commentary on our eating habits but perhaps it is not. The numerous powerful polyphenols in coffee can make a positive contribution to our diet. Please remember the pasteurized milk and sugar often found with the polyphenols in coffee are proven toxins. IMO if you find a way to limit the caffeine and toxins often associated with coffee, your coffee can play a strong positive role in your health.
There is evidence coffee is associated, with reduced cancer and diabetes risk; and perhaps coffee can even help lengthen your life. We do know there are strong anti-oxidants, polyphenols, chlorogenic acid, ferulic acid and other very healthful compounds in coffee. The caffeine in coffee appears to have a salubrious effect on the diseases of an aging brain.
How to Drink Your Coffee
The bottom line on coffee is it appears to be a very healthful drink if you can limit or eliminate most of the usually harmful caffeine and other harmful substances such as sugar and pasteurized homogenized milk.
IMO find a water decaffeinated or low caffeine high antioxidant coffee that is made without harmful chemicals and drink most of your coffee decaffeinated; most of the benefits of coffee do not come from the caffeine.
If you eliminate the TOXIC milk and sugar with your coffee you will be maximizing the benefits. So who likes coffee black? Well if you do not, one of the low sugar nut milks and perhaps a little unrefined black molasses may work for you.
If you use fresh quality coffee beans and a good Decaffeination process it appears you can eliminate 90 to 99 percent of the caffeine and still enjoy a flavorful healthy cup of coffee, several cups a day and eliminate most of the caffeine.
1) Solvent Process: The most employed process by far. Often old coffee beans are used and over roasted to cover up the poor taste. Strong chemical solvents are used. IMO do not buy decaf produced by the Solvent process.
2) Swiss Water Process: A chemical free gentle process that uses water to draw the caffeine out of the bean. The flavor and healthful components of the beans are preserved. This looks good. Mexico has their own water process which should also work. Check it out.
3) CO2 Process: Liquid CO2 is used and leaves no harmful residues. The flavor and healthful components of the beans are preserved. This process is considered organic.
Sweeten your Coffee with Stevia to Combat Metabolic Syndrome

gluconeogenesis. Coffee sweetened with stevia may pack quite a one-two punch for
blood sugar control! The effect of stevia on blood sugar has only been observed
when plasma glucose levels are elevated. It does not lower normal blood sugar
levels in healthy individuals.5 Stevia is not just a safe sugar substitute, but
a natural insulin sensitizer that may help maintain normal sugar and insulin
levels in diabetics and nondiabetics alike. Since stevia extract also decreases
oxidized LDL cholesterol14 and triglycerides,15 and lowers high blood
pressure3,5—all metabolic risk factors—it has great potential for the treatment
of metabolic syndrome."

Stevia and coffee seem to be a very healthful combination especially if you are
having a problem with blood sugar and may be pre-diabetic.

usually try not to go over 20 beans or so; hard to do.

Caffeine is a drug popularly consumed in coffee, tea, soft drinks and, in smaller doses, cocoa and chocolate. Caffeine is a strong stimulator or your adrenal system and very agitating to your body. Yes it may jolt you awake but you pay dearly for this. Some people who are very sensitive to Caffeine may have trouble sleeping even if they stop drinking coffee as early as 9:00 AM. I can drink a cup of caffeinated tea in the morning without apparent problems but if I drink it on two consecutive days I have trouble sleeping the second night. One cup of coffee after 9 AM and I have trouble sleeping that night.
