 Creatine Protocol

Please assure a good supply of this CRITICAL Health Component

See Pro-Cardio Drink Protocol

"Although creatine offers an array of benefits, most people think of it simply as a supplement that bodybuilders and other athletes use to gain strength and muscle mass. Nothing could be further from the truth. A substantial body of research has found that creatine may have a wide variety of uses. In fact, creatine is being studied as a supplement that may help with diseases affecting the neuromuscular system, such as muscular dystrophy (MD). Recent studies suggest creatine may have therapeutic applications in aging populations for wasting syndromes, muscle atrophy, fatigue, gyrate atrophy, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease and other brain pathologies. Several studies have shown creatine can reduce cholesterol by up to 15% and it has been used to correct certain inborn errors of metabolism, such as in people born without the enzyme(s) responsible for making creatine. Some studies have found that creatine may increase growth hormone production."   Creatine: More than a sports nutrition supplement

"Creatine is quickly becoming one of the most well researched and promising supplements for a wide range of diseases. It may have additional uses for pathologies where a lack of high energy compounds and general muscle weakness exist, such as fibromyalgia. People with fibromyalgia have lower levels of creatine phosphate and ATP levels compared to controls.13 Some studies also suggest it helps with the strength and endurance of healthy but aging people as well."    Creatine: More than a sports nutrition supplement

"Although data is limited, some research suggests creatine can raise growth hormone equal to that of intense exercise."    Life Extension on Creatine

"A substantial body of research that found creatine may help with diseases effecting the neuro muscular system, such as muscular dystrophy and may have therapeutic applications in aging populations, wasting syndromes, muscle atrophy, fatigue, myopathies, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and other mitochondrial cytopathies. Several studies have shown it may reduce cholesterol by up to 15% and has been used to correct certain inborn errors of metabolism, such as people born without the enzyme(s) responsible for making creatine."   Life Extension on Creatine

"Because of creatine's apparent abilities to improve the symptoms of other pathologies involving a lack of high energy compounds (e.g., congestive heart failure, etc.) as well as the aforementioned afflictions outlined in the introduction to this article, it has been suggested that creatine may help with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia (some researchers now posit that they are in fact the same syndrome)."    Life Extension on Creatine

"In literally dozens of studies, creatine has been shown to increase strength and muscle mass in young adults and to aid in rehabilitative strength training.3-13 Until recently, data concerning creatine’s effects on older adults was very limited. One of the greatest threats faced by aging adults is the steady loss of lean body mass (muscle) needed to maintain a healthy, functional lifestyle. The medical term for this loss of muscle tissue is sarcopenia, a condition that is only now getting the recognition it deserves by the medical and scientific community."    Anti-Aging Benefits of Creatine

"An abundance of recent studies has found creatine to have beneficial effects in older adults, especially when combined with a resistance training protocol. One study examined the effects of creatine supplementation on muscular performance in older men over a brief time period.35 The study authors concluded, “. . . seven days of creatine supplementation is effective at increasing several indices of muscle performance, including functional tests in older men without adverse side effects. Creatine supplementation may be a useful therapeutic strategy for older adults to attenuate loss in muscle strength and performance of functional living tasks.”   Anti-Aging Benefits of Creatine

"A decline in muscle mass with aging, or sarcopenia, may be related to a decline in mitochondrial function. Without optimal functioning of these energy generators that are found in every human cell, both the cell and the entire body experience a decline in function. Research has established that older adults tend to have lower tissue levels of creatine phosphate, ATP, and other essential high-energy molecules. Older adults are also less adept at replenishing these essential molecules after exercise."   Anti-Aging Benefits of Creatine

"Through its role in promoting an abundant pool of cellular energy, creatine helps support the healthy functioning of muscle, brain, and other body tissues. A substantial body of research demonstrates that creatine is a safe and effective tool for managing a wide range of pathologies, and may be a powerful anti-aging nutrient. Healthy adults may benefit from supplementing with two to three grams of creatine daily, while those seeking to address specific health concerns such as muscle loss or brain injury may benefit from five to ten grams of creatine daily."   Anti-Aging Benefits of Creatine

"For those interested in maintaining a sharp mind and a supple figure, creatine is a must-take supplement. Many know creatine only as a popular supplement used by athletes, bodybuilders, and other fitness enthusiasts to maintain muscle mass and improve exercise performance. But exciting new scientific evidence shows that creatine not only can help people with degenerative neurological disorders, but also may help just about everyone maintain a healthy, clear-thinking mind."    The “Strength Supplement” that Improves Brain Power

What is Creatine

"How does creatine work? In a nutshell, creatine works to help generate energy. When ATP loses a phosphate molecule and becomes adenosine diphosphate (ADP), it must be converted back to ATP to produce energy. Creatine is stored in the human body as creatine phosphate (CP) also called phosphocreatine. When ATP is depleted, it can be recharged by CP. That is, CP donates a phosphate molecule to the ADP, making it ATP again. An increased pool of CP means faster and greater recharging of ATP, which means more work can be performed. This is why creatine has been so successful for athletes. For short-duration explosive sports, such as sprinting, weight lifting and other anaerobic endeavors, ATP is the energy system used."   Creatine: More than a sports nutrition supplement

“Creatine Monohydrate from NOW Sports is a naturally occurring compound found in the human body and obtained in the diet primarily from meat and fish. Creatine is a popular supplement among active individuals because of its ability to serve as an energy reservoir, especially during intense physical exertion. During short, intense bursts of activity, the body breaks down adenosine triphosphate (ATP) into adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and phosphate for energy. Creatine helps the body convert ADP back to ATP, providing greater amounts of ATP for energy, which may increase short-term endurance and strength. Creatine can also be stored for later use by cells, creating the "energy reservoir" active individuals desire. This product contains no sugar, salt, starch, yeast, wheat, gluten, corn, soy, milk, egg, shellfish or preservatives.”    Creatine Monohydrate

"Creatine, a compound comprising the amino acids methionine, glycine, and arginine, was discovered and isolated from meat extract in 1835. Humans produce creatine in the kidney, liver, and pancreas, but store most of it in muscles, including the heart. While creatine has been known since the early 1800s, not until the end of the 20th century did scientists discover that when taken as a supplement, creatine can be of significant help in adding muscle mass. More than 500 well-researched studies have been conducted showing that creatine supplements can help everyone—men and women, young and old—maintain muscular fitness and ward off some of the most debilitating effects of aging, such as sarcopenia, the age-related loss of muscle mass and strength."    The “Strength Supplement” that Improves Brain Power

Creatine is an essential part of the Krebs Cycle of energy production in the human body. If you get good amounts of the amino acids methionine, glycine, and arginine you will likely produce and store the creatine required of power your body to good levels of physical performance. SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) is the bioactive form of the amino acid methionine and can be taken if you really want to cover all bases.

Like most good things as we age our production of creatine can slow. For those of us over 40 or so or those who engage in intense exercise often, supplementing with creatine makes good sense IMO. Creatine, HGH, glutathione and testosterone building supplementation and actions is a KEY part of my health regimen.

Optimizing Muscle Health With Whey, Creatine, and Glutamine

"Health-conscious adults are discovering the benefits of a combination of nutrients that can help them get the most from an active lifestyle as they get older. In order to help offset the age-related loss in muscle, whey protein offers a rich source of essential amino acids that are rapidly absorbed and utilized, helping to maintain healthy muscle. Utilizing whey protein as a meal replacement provides critical proteins without the carbohydrates and fats that may contribute to unwanted weight gain. Two other nutrients complement the muscle-building effects of whey: creatine supports muscle strength and prevents muscle wasting with aging, while the amino acid glutamine helps preserve lean tissue mass and supports immune system health. Together, these nutrients in combination powerfully support aging muscles, functional strength, and the aging immune system, all of which are critical factors for an active, independent life."   Optimizing Muscle Health With Whey, Creatine, and Glutamine

"Whey protein is a rich source of the essential amino acids in higher concentrations compared with vegetable sources such as soy. Compared with other protein sources, whey contains a high concentration of branched-chain amino acids, which are important for tissue growth and repair. Additionally, whey is rich in the sulfur-containing amino acids, which enhance the body’s antioxidant protection through intracellular conversion to glutathione.2 Other constituents of whey include beta-lactoglobulin, lactoferrin, and immunoglobulins, which hold important benefits for immune support.1 Whey’s amino acids are rapidly absorbed and utilized, quickly elevating plasma amino acids and thus contributing to the preservation of muscle mass. Studies show that whey protein helps augment the effects of resistance exercise training, particularly when it is consumed shortly before or after exercise training."   Optimizing Muscle Health With Whey, Creatine, and Glutamine

"One of whey’s major effects is its ability to raise levels of glutathione,1 a powerful intracellular antioxidant. The importance of glutathione for good health cannot be overstated. Glutathione is arguably the most important water-soluble antioxidant found in the body, participating in crucial detoxification reactions in the liver. Glutathione is known to be essential to immunity, body antioxidative capacity, and general well-being, and decreased levels of glutathione are associated with a long list of ailments such as neurodegenerative disease, cirrhosis, and the aging process itself.7 Boosting glutathione levels through whey supplementation may thus be beneficial for aging populations looking to avert disease and stay healthy and active."    Optimizing Muscle Health With Whey, Creatine, and Glutamine

"Research suggests that whey and creatine may offer synergistic benefits for enhancing the effects of resistance training. One study compared the effects of whey alone with whey plus creatine or placebo (maltodextrin) in combination with a resistance exercise training program. Men who supplemented with whey and creatine demonstrated greater gains in lean tissue mass and bench press strength, compared with men who supplemented with whey alone or with placebo.4"  Optimizing Muscle Health With Whey, Creatine, and Glutamine

"Glutamine is required for countless functions in the human body, including maintaining muscle tissue and supporting immune system function.16 Glutamine is a conditionally essential amino acid, meaning that the body requires dietary or supplemental glutamine during stressful circumstances such as prolonged exercise, surgery, or infectious disease.17 Compelling evidence suggests that glutamine may be especially important for adults seeking to preserve lean tissue mass."   Optimizing Muscle Health With Whey, Creatine, and Glutamine

"The combination of whey, creatine, and glutamine powerfully supports aging muscles, functional strength, and the aging immune system, all of which are critical factors for an active, independent life. Utilizing whey protein as a meal replacement provides critical proteins without the carbohydrates and fats that may contribute to unwanted weight gain."   Optimizing Muscle Health With Whey, Creatine, and Glutamine

"There is now a considerable body of literature indicating that certain amino acids, when taken in high enough doses, can stimulate a significant increase in HGH levels. An early study done in 1981 showed that 1200 mg of l-arginine and 1200 mg of l-lysine, when taken together, produced a measurable increase in HGH secretion. Interestingly, neither of these amino acids showed an effect on HGH levels when taken separately, even at the same doses."    Protecting Muscle Mass As You Age

"A study done at the Louisiana State University College of Medicine has shown that even the elderly can benefit from amino acid supplements. Nine men, aged 32 to 64, were given 2000 mg of the amino acid glutamine; 90 minutes after ingestion, HGH levels increased over 400% from baseline.27"   Protecting Muscle Mass As You Age

Folks if you examine the above evidence you may come to the same conclusion I have. We have plenty of evidence that often those of us who are aging or exercising intensely ARE NOT GETTING sufficient creatine. This is resulting in many problems, some serious, many subtle but who wants not to live at peak performance? Not me.

For those of us over 40 or so or those who engage in intense exercise often, supplementing with creatine makes good sense IMO. Creatine, HGH, glutathione and testosterone building supplementation and actions should be a KEY part of our health regimen.

My Daily Creatine and Amino Acid Supplement

  • 5 to 10 grams of Creatine   depending on exercise level

  • 25 grams of Whey (always take whey with all amino acids)

  • 3 grams of L-Glutamine

  • 5 grams of L-Arginine

  • 3 grams of L-Glycine

  • 4 grams of L-Taurine

  • one ounce of unsweetened cocoa

L-Taurine is very protective of the cardio vascular system. To give this drink some chocolate flavor as well as LOTS of cardio goodness a few grams of unsweetened cocoa powder can be added.

There are many reasons for this creatine and amino acid mix. This protocol will give you many of these reasons. If you visit the amino acid protocols you will see other reasons. I also take Creatine, Whey, arginine, glutamine and other amino acids with my HGH protocol, my Glutathione protocol and my testosterone protocol. I have found MANY health problems especially in aging individuals are immensely helped by increasing our production of creatine, human growth hormone, glutathione and testosterone.

Whey and Amino Acid Supplements

Several studies have shown that whey helps you absorb amino acids. I always try to take my amino acid supplements first thing in the morning with a glass containing whey, my HGH mixture, creatine, glutamine and an ounce of cocoa powder,

WARNING: Do not take creatine if you are pregnant or nursing or if you have a renal disorder. Do not exceed recommended dosage
