Detoxification Protocol

    

IMO detoxification should be a continuous daily Concern and Task for all of us

    

"Metabolic detoxification, within the context of this protocol, is the pathway by which the body processes unwanted chemicals for elimination. The body metabolizes xenobiotics (foreign chemicals) and unnecessary endobiotics (endogenously produced chemicals) so they can be excreted. Excess hormones, environmental toxicants, and prescription drugs are all cleared via the same enzymatic detoxification systems. Metabolic detoxification is therefore essential for protecting the body from environmental factors and maintaining internal homeostasis. Natural interventions, such as B vitamins and sulforaphane, may help support detoxification pathways by promoting the activity of essential enzymes. Note: The body is generally very effective at detoxifying itself. Providing the body with essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients is the best way to ensure proper detoxification. Many diets and trends that claim to “detox” the body are pushing the boundaries of scientific plausibility and may even be harmful."   Metabolic Detoxification

"The metabolic detoxification systems address this problem by converting lipid-soluble toxins into inactive water-soluble metabolites. The “solubilization” of a toxin is accomplished by enzymes which attach (conjugate) additional water-soluble molecules to the lipid-soluble toxin at specific attachment points. If the toxin does not contain any of these attachment points, they are first added by a separate set of enzymes which chemically transform the toxin to include these molecular “handles”. Following the solubilization reactions, the chemically-modified toxin is transported out of the cell and excreted. These three steps or phases of removing undesirable or harmful lipid-soluble compounds are performed by three sets of cellular proteins or enzymes, called the phase I (transformation) and phase II (conjugation) enzymes, and the phase III (transport) proteins."    Metabolic Detoxification

“A rebuilding detoxification diet provides nutritional fortification for the body's immune system. While there are many different detoxification approaches available, they differ in their actions and purpose. Some detoxification programs only affect the bowels. Others may cleanse the liver or blood while others may aid the kidneys or the skin in their functions. Conditions that must be considered in the detoxification process are nutrition, water, exercise, rest, sunshine, and fresh air. By combining these detoxification programs into a total anti-aging program, one can effectively regain health to an optimal level and thus look younger in the process. Once detoxification of the body takes place and when the body eliminates toxins, health is restored and vigor is revitalized. A natural vegetarian diet is the best way to eliminate toxins from the body effectively. A rebuilding detoxification diet is essentially a vegetarian diet consisting of whole fruits, green leafy vegetables, legumes, and seeds. Meat and fish are taken sparingly, if at all. Organic eggs are acceptable in reasonable quantities. Food groups are rotated every four days to allow maximum elimination from the body before another quantity of the same food group are ingested.”  Doctor Michael Lam MD

“On the other hand, vitamin C is water-soluble and fights free radicals in the plasma. Vitamin C and E help regenerate each other as well. Vitamin C is especially vital in any detoxification programs, as the body needs it for energy to process and eliminate wastes. High doses of vitamin C can have a laxative effect as it attracts water. Vitamin C can be taken until the bowel tolerance level (BTL) is achieved. The BTL varies from one person to another. Some people may reach a tolerance level at four to five grams (4,000-5,000 mg) while others only reach tolerance at 10 to15 grams (10,000-15,000 mg). Cancer patients can easily consume 20 to 30 grams (20,000-30,000 mg) of vitamin C to reach tolerance level, as they require more vitamin C than most people do.” Doctor Michael Lam MD   Note once BTL is reached vitamin C can be given additionally with an IV

IMO we need not wait to perform a "detoxification event" but daily keep all toxins from finding a home in your body. Making sure we eat all the detoxifying foods and supplement with detoxifying agents should be a DAILY occurrence. IMO we need to think always: "is this harmful?" and "Is this detoxifying?" After a short while you will do this subconsciously and if someone asks you may need some time to explain your reasoning. I find this one of the most satisfying aspects of health knowledge.

    

Organic Food

Since organic foods contain less toxins you are a step ahead in your detoxification. Many feel this is the most effective thing you can do to detoxify. In addition to often eating organic I try to get a significant proportion of my diet from wild food which IMO is a cut above organic.

Since plants have evolved to defend against pests and toxins of all sorts when we eat them we gain some ammo in our fight to detoxify. Thus a largely organic raw plant based diet will help you detoxify. Good free range meat and animal products are often organic; the best eggs I can obtain and wild salmon are mainstays of my diet.

     

Detoxification symptoms often look like what we call disease

Detoxification can take the form of fevers (toxins trying to leave through the skin), headaches (too many toxins in the bloodstream), acne (toxins trying to make it out through the skin), tiredness (toxins in the blood), sneezing (toxins trying to make their way out through your nose at 95 miles per hour), coughing (toxins trying to get out of our lungs), vomiting (ingested toxins rapidly leaving the body through the stomach and mouth), diarrhea (toxins exiting the body in mass through the bowel), rashes (toxins attempting to leave through the skin, The list really goes on and on.

When we see these symptoms most people think that they are sick, even though it is by removing these toxins that our bodies are trying to make us well. In fact, most all of the swine flu symptoms are actually detoxification symptoms. If you start looking at many disease symptoms through this new lens, you’ll be amazed at what you find. Most of our "disease" problems reside on our plates and worn out car seats (instead of worn out shoes)

Detoxification in the Liver takes place in two Phases. Very simply put, Phase I usually discovers and uncovers and converts the toxin into a form that Phase II can eliminate from your body, One problem is that the products from Phase I may be more toxic than the toxins being removed. This makes it imperative that Phase II has all the tools it needs to RAPIDLY eliminate ALL the Phase I toxic products.

Therefore BEFORE beginning a major detoxification Program make sure you have provided MANY Phase II Tools. Once this is done you can slowly bring in the use of Phase I Tools.

The cruciferous vegetables are great for detoxification. Many contain high levels of the Phase II promoting sulforaphane and other beneficial detoxification components,  Radishes are simple to provide in EVERY MEAL; all you need is ONE.

Several years ago I was having digestion problems which resulted in among other things in undigested food in my stools. I tried several things without too much success. I have had activated charcoal on my kitchen shelf for thirty years but until Doctor Al showed me how powerful an all around detoxification agent it was I did not realize what I had.
