Estrogen is Required

For both men and women the hormone estrogen in its several forms is required for life. Women of course require much more estrogen than men; but men also need a little estrogen for many functions including maintaining our bones and cardiovascular systems.

    

Estrogen Dominance

"Insoluble fiber binds to estrogen in the GI tract leaving much less estrogen in circulation. Women who ate 28 grams of fiber a day had a 38% lower risk of breast cancer than women who ate 14 grams."   Prevention, Note this is going to help us men also

Estrogen Dominance is a condition where too much Estrogen or synthetic man made estrogen like chemicals is contained inside the human body compared with the progesterone and free testosterone (See Testosterone Protocol). Both males and females can suffer from Estrogen Dominance. The excess estrogen is then taken up by testosterone/progesterone receptor sites in cells throughout the body. When an estrogen molecule occupies a testosterone/progesterone receptor site on a cell membrane, it blocks the ability of the intended hormone to induce a healthy hormonal signal. It does not matter how much free testosterone/progesterone is available in your blood if excessive estrogen is competing for the same cellular receptor sites. High serum levels of estrogen slow the natural production of testosterone. Excessively elevated estrogen predisposes both sexes to MANY diseases, cardiovascular, cancer and others. Many men over 55 have more estrogen than a 55 year old woman. Women after menopause may have too much of a deleterious form of estrogen. This is obviously not good.

     

Estrogen is often manufactured in your "Spare Tire"

"Obesity alone causes estrogen levels in men to spike.38 The reason overweight men grow breasts is that abdominal fat tissue synthesizes huge amounts of aromatase, which converts their testosterone to estrogen. Aging men can also convert testosterone to estrogen; this is often done in the fatty tissue around your belly, the so called “spare tire” and is another reason a spare tire is a marker for cardiovascular and other disease. If we men do not have this spare tire a lot of our estrogen dominance problems may solve themselves. Of course women do not want a 'spare tire" either and it may be negatively metabolically and hormonally active in women also. So we ALL need to lose our "spare tires".

     

Commercial Meat is Full of Estrogen

Just about all the commercial meat (See Meat Protocol) and especially poultry you eat is pumped full of synthetic estrogen. Estrogen makes the animals grow faster with more weight and fat. Plastics, toxic drugs and many other aspects of modern life supply chemicals that act like estrogen. The sun screen we are urged to plaster on our skin is often loaded with synthetic estrogen which will be absorbed into your body. I store all my food in glass containers to avoid the synthetic estrogen in plastic (See Plastic Protocol). The chemical BPA is much in the news lately. BPA acts strongly as an estrogen try to avoid it, difficult to do as it is in your store receipts.

   

Estrogen Dominance results in NUMEROUS health problems

For example more than 80% of women with breast cancer (See Breast Cancer Prevention Protocol) suffer from Estrogen Dominance. Women with estrogen dominance may experience more stressful monthly periods or problems with their periods and menopause may be much more difficult. Estrogen dominance may slow or stop a Woman's production of progesterone. As progesterone is required to balance estrogen a woman's entire hormone system is thrown off.    

Most men with low effective free testosterone suffer from Estrogen dominance. Estrogen dominance in men may contribute to BPH; will help make you fat, slow and exhausted. Your wife may also start looking for a young boy friend. LOL. Prescription drugs for BPH encourage testosterone-to-estrogen conversion. Men who take these drugs often develop female like breasts.

You MUST recognize excess ESTROGEN as a very important toxin to be guarded against and eliminated from your body. Yes men need a little of this vital hormone  and women need about ten times as much as men but TOO much estrogen and synthetic estrogen plays havoc with both sexes. Hormones can be very dangerous things in excess and lack.

Your liver (See Liver Protection Protocol) breaks down estrogen so a fully functioning liver is a must. Without fiber (See Fiber Protocol) the estrogen passing thru your colon will be reabsorbed to continue to circulate within your body. A slow bowel transit time (See Bowel Transit Time Protocol) will also promote estrogen resorption. Often a weak plant estrogen (See Phytoestrogen Protocol) will mask the effects of a synthetic estrogen. Thus these plants may help protect us from Estrogen Dominance.

Some foods inhibit estrogen such as flax, squash, onions, green beans, cabbage, berries, citrus, pineapples, pears, grapes, figs, melons, sesame seeds, and pumpkin seeds.

Flax seed provides 100s of times the phytoestrogen lignans as the next food source. Lignans balance out estrogen and have a beneficial effect in today’s synthetic estrogen loaded world. Flax may thus be protective against several cancers including breast cancer prostate cancer.

I have problems with estrogen dominance and find I must be aware of what to avoid and what to do.
