Flax Seed Protocol

  

Flax is one of the few ways to get your required Omega EFAs, especially the critical Omega 3 IMO you should ingest it every week or more often.

Flax seed provides 100s of times the phytoestrogen lignans as the next food source

"New research from Germany and France suggests that supplements containing flaxseed or borage oil may protect skin against reddening and improve skin health from within. Flax is a great source of Omega EFAs Especially Omega 3

Flax seed contains all the EFAs (See Omega EFA Protocol), mostly as omega 3s. Flax is a good natural source of vitamin E. Flax seed provides 100s of times the phytoestrogen (See Phytoestrogen Protocol) lignans as the next food source. Lignans balance out estrogen and have a beneficial effect in today’s synthetic estrogen (See Estrogen Dominance Protection Protocol) loaded world. Flax may thus be protective against several cancers including breast cancer and prostate cancer. Ground Flax Seed is used in several natural cancer treatment protocols including the famous Doctor Johanna Budwig’s. Lignans also transport vitamin E throughout your body and increase the effectiveness of a given amount of vitamin E.

   

Flax is a great source of EPA and DHA

As the above research suggests much of the omega 3 ALA may be converted by your body to the vital omega 3 EFA EPA and DHA (See DHA & EPA Protocol). There is some controversy about this but IMO it looks to be happening in the real world.

 

Mankind has been eating Flax for a LONG Time

Flaxseeds are known in Latin as "Linum usitatissimum" meaning "most useful." Folks when you see a food with a name like this EAT IT! At least TRY IT!

Man has grown flax for many thousands of years. Flax was one of the first plants man decided he had to always have available. Flax is one of the few ways to get your required EFAs. The flax oil contains all of the Omega EFAs mostly as Omega 3s. There often are problems with the flax oil commercial product, problems, which can be overcome yet you may decide to just eat the freshly ground flax meal and oil. Flax oil goes rancid rather quickly. When you buy the oil you have no idea how long it has been since the flax seed was pressed to obtain the oil. A good flax oil manufacturer will solve this and the other problems.

Ground or Cooked Flax Seed is usually Required

If you grind the flax seed yourself just before eating them you are assured of the VERY freshest oil and meal. The ground seeds will be 40% oil; 60% meal. Raw Flax seed will keep at least one year, I keep mine in the garage in winter in my cool basement in summer, and produce fresh oil when ground. Flax meal is a perfect protein; it has all the essential amino acids. Flax meal also contains almost all the flax lignans, a very beneficial substance. You will see flax oil advertised, as “High Lignan” don’t believe it, 98% of the lignans in the seed go into the meal.

Buy a small coffee grinder to grind ALL your seed, not just flax. Ground flax can be used in thousands of ways. Just don’t heat it over 300 F as this destroys the EFAs; I almost never heat my ground flax but do pour it over heated foods after cooking. I sprinkle mine over salads, add it to shakes and mix it with vegetables and fish. I like its nutty flavor. Flax with its copious fiber will make your stools softer and very soft if you eat a lot. Most people will find this a good thing. Be sure to drink your normal lot of water after eating flax as it absorbs lots of water. Ground flax is great fiber. Flax seed provides lignans which carry vitamin E throughout your body thus increasing your tissue vitamin E levels for a given ingestion of vitamin E.

   

Whole raw Flax Seeds are also helpful

"Not only does Flax provide a rich source of all-natural fiber, but the omega-3s help reduce inflammation. This helps relax the colon, letting toxins pass more easily. I like to sprinkle about a tablespoon or two of flax seeds on my salads.”   Doctor Al Sears MD, Note the raw flax seeds will pass through your colon intact helping to clear your colon. Ground flax will provide the omega 3 and fiber.

If you eat the flax seeds whole without grinding or cooking (See A Super Breakfast) them you will not get the EFAs and the seeds will pass out of your system intact. As the wet seed is quite mucilaginous this proves soothing to the GI tract and you might try it from time to time and if you have an upset digestive system; take a small handful of flax seeds and soak them in water a few hours to a day before swallowing them.

  

Flaxseed 'Butter'

You can make a butter like spread with flax and cocoanut oil. Grind up about one half pound flax. Heat some virgin coconut oil in a double boiler at about 100 F and add to the flax until you get a mixture to your liking. Adding a little MSM to the mixture will produce a Doctor Budwig like mixture for cancer treatment or prevention IMO. Stir well and shape and solidify in the freezer. I usually stir again after a few minutes in the freezer and it has started to set up and some flax has settled out  to the bottom of the mixture.

The second time you make it, it will suit you well. IMO it is delicious, much more distinctive than butter. If you make a few pounds at a time you can store it in your freezer safely for a few months. Unlike butter or cocoanut oil your flax butter will need continuous refrigeration as the omega 3s may go bad quickly at room temperature.

    

Conclusion

I consider freshly ground flax my main omega 3 EFA source and eat at least three one half cup; fill the grinder, grindings a week. The benefits of freshly ground flax seed make it one of the very best foods on this planet. IMO you should ingest it every week or more often.

   

Caution

Caution: There is evidence flax may tend to cause increased absorption of copper and cadmium. Thus you must make sure your zinc (See Zinc Protocol) levels are good and chelate (See Chelation Protocol) the heavy metal cadmium. Since heat over about 300 F destroys Omega EFAs try to keep your flax foods below this. I usually do not heat my ground flax at all. If you eat a good portion of your calories as flax you will have to watch your blood thinning too much as the omega 3 rich flax may over thin your blood if you eat a great deal of flax.

Make sure you drink a lot of water after a flax heavy meal; the meal absorbs 20 times its weight in water. This has MANY digestive benefits but can also dehydrate you.
