High Blood Pressure Protection and Treatment Protocol

About 90% of us will have to deal with High Blood Pressure in our Lifetime. IMO Start EARLY

High Blood Pressure is primarily a NUTRITIONAL and lifestyle problem IMO

"The lifetime risk of Hypertension among middle aged and elderly individuals is 90%; corrective intervention at an early age could relieve a huge public health burden." Miura et al 2001

"Nutrition plays a critical role in determining blood pressure. In traditional societies, the inclusion of abundant plant-sourced foods and wild game, along with exclusion of processed foods and food additives like high-fructose corn syrup, confer extraordinary lifelong protection from hypertension. Over the past 50 years, the American food industry has created a destructive and extraordinarily far-reaching array of industrial foods. The average American diet of processed carbohydrates like breakfast cereals and breads (all low-fat!), trans/hydrogenated fatty acids, high-fructose corn syrup, and overly-sugared foods is a guaranteed path towards high blood pressure, not to mention cholesterol distortions, increased inflammatory responses, and obesity.16,17"   Reduce Blood Pressure—Naturally

“By and large most nonhuman mammals are spared HBP, heart disease, diabetes, obesity and similar conditions collectively referred to as “the diseases of civilization”.”  Howard & Payne, Note be an animal at least in part

"We have an epidemic of diabetic six month old babies. It’s the sugar.”   Doctor Robert H. Lustig MD

http://littlemisssickypoo.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/SugarChart3.jpg

All this sugar is getting converted into EXCESS triglycerides which should take the blame for CVD NOT LDL

Is Sugar Hiding in Your Diet?

"What if you were to learn that every day, 25 percent of your calories came from a poison, disguised as a food? And what if you discovered that this chemical imposter was responsible for your insulin resistance and weight gain? And elevated blood pressure. And elevated triglycerides and LDL. And depletion of vitamins and minerals. And even gout, heart disease and liver damage? What if you were to discover that this toxic substance had been dumped into your food in gradually increasing quantities for the last thirty years, with the full knowledge and blessings of the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association, the USDA and the FDA?      Doctor Robert H. Lustig MD  UCSF        Start of series, NOTE You MUST watch this, This video will help you kick the deadly sugar habit, Note please start your HBP program by eliminating sugar/HFCS from your diet

"We have a hypertension epidemic in this country, it’s the sugar.”    Doctor Robert H. Lustig MD  UCSF

"Food is the fastest-acting and most powerful medicine you can take to change your life." Doctor Mark Hyman MD

“The problem here is that just because the drugs have made the hypertension go away, that doesn't mean you're "cured"--or even safe, for that matter. People taking blood pressure lowering medications inevitably feel worse on the drugs. You would think this would signal to the doctor that he's making the patient worse, and that the pressure is elevated for some good physiological reason. But most likely, he'll just continue to prescribe away.” William Campbell Douglass MD

“Another strike against HBP drugs is increasing evidence that they may be doing more harm than good. Virtually every medical authority has recommended that non-drug therapies be used with mild hypertension. Most cases of HBP can be brought under control through diet and lifestyle.” Murray & Pizzorno

“Few patients with marginal hypertension require drug treatment.” Journal of Cardiology

“Treatment of hypertension has become the leading reason for visits to physicians as well as for drug prescriptions.” JAMA

“CoQ10 could eliminate the need for heart and BP medications for millions of Americans.” Doctor Peter Langsjoen and Doctor Karl Folkers

“Too little potassium leads to sodium retention, which over time may trigger high blood pressure.” G. Gobal Krishna MD Temple University

"In an exciting new discovery, scientists have uncovered two natural extracts that have similar mechanisms to some of the most effective drug therapies for hypertension. “Critical examination of the effectiveness of prescription drugs reveals convincing data that most prescription drugs are not only ineffective but may worsen the condition being treated. Some of these medications appear to be designed to create life-long dependency upon the drug, since drug withdrawal exacerbates symptoms.” Bill Sardi

“All too frequently, drugs substitute one disease for another. In the treatment of high blood pressure diuretics can induce a vitamin B1 (thiamine) deficiency that results in heart failure. One study found a third of patients hospitalized for heart failure, who are often treated with diuretics, were vitamin B1 deficient.  Vitamin therapy is uncommon in hospital settings. Drug therapy is often used for high blood pressure. The idea is to lower blood pressure with medications and reduce the risk for a stroke.  But no single blood pressure pill seems to work.  More than one drug is often needed, and there are few if any studies that prove combination therapies are safe and effective. Most blood pressure drugs do not address the cause of the disease, which commonly are age-related changes in blood sugar or hardening of the arteries, resulting in inability of the blood vessels to dilate upon physical or mental exertion or stress.”  Bill Sardi

"Previous studies have told us that when patients take diuretic thiazides, potassium levels drop and the risk of diabetes climbs to 50 percent. Now, for the first time, we think we have concrete information connecting the dots." Tariq Shafi, M.D., M.H.S., Johns Hopkins University S of Medicine

“Researchers at the University of Cincinnati have found that supplementing with as little as 2 grams/day of fish oil (410 mg of EPA plus 285 mg of DHA) can lower diastolic pressure by 4.4 mm Hg and systolic pressure by 6.5 mm Hg in people with elevated blood pressure. Enough to avoid taking drugs in cases of borderline hypertension. Several other clinical trials have confirmed that fish oils are indeed effective in lowering high blood pressure and that they may work even better if combined with a program of salt restriction.” Hans R. Larsen, MSc ChE

“Drugs like Coumadin that antagonize vitamin K do more than cause bone loss and arterial calcification. In a model of melanoma in mice, the oral administration of anticoagulant drugs that antagonize vitamin K drastically promoted cancer metastasis.” Life Extension, Note WOW

"Nattokinase was shown to lower blood viscosity. Blood pressure rises as the heart compensates for aging. Preliminary studies show that Nattokinase lowers blood pressure by an average of twenty-four points. Your blood thickens due to aging and environmental stress. A vicious cycle begins. As your heart works harder to pump blood throughout the body, your arteries expand and stiffen to compensate for the increased stress. The properties of Nattokinase closely resemble plasmin, the only main enzyme produced by the body to dissolve and break down blood clots. What makes Nattokinase a particularly potent treatment, is that it enhances the body's natural ability to fight blood clots in several different ways. And since it so closely resembles plasmin, it dissolves fibrin directly while also enhancing the body's own ability to produce plasmin and other clot-dissolving agents, including urokinase." Doctor Garry Gordon

"Blood clots kill more than 600,000 Americans every year yet conventional medicine has largely ignored well-documented methods of reducing abnormal blood clot formation." Circulation Ahajournal

"Excess abdominal fat that grows around internal belly organs, visceral fat, is linked with a host of undesirable conditions including increased inflammation and elevated risks of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease." Life Extension

"Chocolate eaters in a study of heart attack survivors had lower blood pressure and were less likely to die of heart disease, scientists in Sweden said. Of the 1,169 patients studied, those who ate chocolate two or more times a week cut their risk of dying from heart disease nearly threefold compared to those who didn't eat chocolate at all, said the study's lead author, Doctor Imre Janszky of Karolinska Institute. This study also suggested antioxidants in cacao cut the risk of death from heart disease in healthy older men and post-menopausal women,"  Life Extension, Note dark cocoa should work better

“Research confirms what I told you. There is just no benefit in medically lowering blood pressure below 140/100. The researchers were quick to point out that those with natural blood pressure 115/70 have fewer heart attacks. But medically treating to get your blood pressure that low doesn't help. Now the big question is why. Medicine is based on treating symptoms, not causes. High blood pressure is merely a symptom of an underlying cause. Just treating the blood pressure leaves the cause untreated. For example, lead toxicity or potassium deficiency can cause high blood pressure. Yes, you can drug the pressure down. But you don't fix the problem. If your BP is more than 160, you are at increased risk of stroke (blood vessels can break at high pressure). There is a clear place for medical intervention — to prevent a vessel from blowing out. So if you have extremely high blood pressure, you need medication until you can find the cause.”   Doctor Robert Rowen MD

"Not only has spirulina been shown to improve circulation and maintain healthy blood pressure, but Japanese scientists have discovered that it can also help detoxify the blood and maintain energy levels. Important to note in the area of prevention, spirulina is richly supplied with the blue pigment phycocyanin, a biliprotein which has been shown to support normal cell growth,"   Doctor Al Sears MD

"Reverting back to basic foods, especially reducing or eliminating wheat grains, cornstarch and sugars, can reduce blood pressure substantially."    Life Extension

"Cardamom is a seasoning that comes from India and is often used in the foods of South AsiaA study investigating the health effects of cardamom found that participants given powdered cardamom daily for several months saw significant reductions in their blood pressure readings. You can include cardamom seeds or the powder in spice rubs, in soups and stews, and even in baked goods for a special flavor and a positive health benefit."   Herbs to Lower Blood Pressure   Note with the high price, relatively. of cardamom the recommended dose, two teaspoons/day, might cost a dollar or two a day so this might be a good substitute for a HBP DRUG.

IMO Your HBP is a SYMPTOM, it is almost never a disease

http://www.vegsource.com/articles/figure1.jpg

Note the water only fasting will cleanse your system of excess sodium and other possibly HBP elements

"Because of the complex relationships associating the symptom of hypertension with the cardiovascular diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diseases such as hypertensive vascular disease, congestive heart failure, renal disease, stroke, arteriosclerosis, and diabetes are often interrelated. They may  ultimately express the same symptom of high blood pressure or develop as a result of high blood pressure and in turn is aggravated by hypertension."   Life Extension

"It is not known what causes essential hypertension which accounts for 90% to 95% of hypertension cases."   Life Extension

Please make sure you do not have one of these serious problems before you concentrate on your HBP problem.

6 Ways To Lower Blood Pressure By Changing Your Diet

Herbs to Lower Blood Pressure

IMO Get Familiar with HBP and the Prevention of HBP

"The lifetime risk of Hypertension among middle aged and elderly individuals is 90%; corrective intervention at an early age could relieve a huge public health burden." Miura et al 2001

High Blood Pressure is primarily a NUTRITIONAL and lifestyle problem IMO

Since most of us will at some point have problems getting our unhealthy blood pressure down why not learn the basics of HBP PREVENTION now? This is not difficult and should IMO be incorporated into your lifestyle.

Your High Blood Pressure is a SYMPTOM of a problem or problems SOMEWHERE in your body, diet or lifestyle. Metabolic syndrome itself is mostly a product of sugar and or HFCS.

It's possible that your elevated blood pressure is a protective effect, enabling your heart to get your blood to all your tissues in spite of the problem(s), whatever that may be. YOUR HBP is a SYMPTOM!!! If you take drugs  to lower your HBP you do NOTHING to correct the underlying problem or problems.  These HBP drugs range from dangerous to disastrous.

As you will have noted if you read the research paragraphs above there are literally hundreds of things you can do to improve the odds of NEVER HAVING HBP PROBLEMS. It may at first seem overwhelming to imagine including all these salubrious habits, foods and supplements in your life. Just take it one simple step at a time. Start anywhere you wish, say potassium; you may intuitively know lack of fresh food is bad for your health but as you read the potassium research and view the lack of fresh food’s ties to hundreds of KNOWN health problems your resolve to eat more fresh food will be strengthened.

The web of actions required to avoid HBP is also great. The good part is in avoiding HBP you will also be avoiding MANY other health problems in large part; when you address these problems you will find much of the work you must do to avoid these problems has already been done.

High Blood Pressure is a Serious Health Risk

The consequences may not be immediately apparent with this often symptomless problem but long-term hypertension can lead to a number of serious problems. As you can see above your first goal is to get your BP under 140/80 or so. Please don't stop there 120/80 is MUCH healthier and IMO should be everyone's goal. It is often LABORIOUS to do this BUT in doing so you will be SOLVING many health problems you do not KNOW you have. Please think of your BP as the ROAD to good health.

"When oxidative stress is present the angiotensionogen molecule shifts its shape and floods the system with angiotensin. This led to the discovery of a HBP "oxidative switch"."   Life Extension

"Atherosclerosis isn't the only disease the polyunsaturated oils can give you. Hypertension will occur in rats and chickens by feeding unsaturated oils whereas animal fats, lard, milk, butter do not cause high blood pressure."   Doctor William Douglass MD, Note a small amount of undenatured polyunsaturates is fine and required

“Salt and high blood pressure don’t mix. According to the Mayo Clinic, if you cut even a little bit of salt from your diet, it can result in lowering your blood pressure by as much as 8 mmHg. The majority of salt in the American diet comes from restaurant food and pre-prepared foods. “   Note about half of us can be sensitive to large amounts of sodium. IMO if you are having high Blood Pressure problems cut out all your salt for a month or so and see if it makes a difference.

“Processed deli and lunch meats can be real sodium bombs. (Bacon counts in this category, too.) These meats often are cured, seasoned, and preserved with salt. A two-ounce serving of some lunchmeats could be 600 milligrams of sodium or more. If you have a heavier hand with the cold cuts, you’ll get even more sodium. Add bread, cheese, condiments, and pickles, and your simple sandwich can quickly become a sodium trap.”

"The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) says that simple exercises like walking or doing chores around the house can lower blood pressure. ACSM recommends a half-hour minimum of moderate physical activity five days a week. Talk to your doctor about developing an exercise program.”

"This strategy [Eliminating Wheat from the Diet}, as unexpected as it might be to many people, is probably the most potent strategy we have employed in our heart disease prevention and reversal clinic. It is not uncommon in our clinic to see blood pressure reductions of 20-40 mmHg, along with reduction or elimination of the “need” for blood pressure-reducing medication, not to mention dramatic weight loss, correction of cholesterol distortions (reduction in triglycerides, increased HDL, decreased LDL), and reduced inflammation."   Life Extension

“Two beers, two glasses of wine or a shot of liquor had no effect on blood pressure. Women drinking between two and three drinks a say were 40% more likely to have HBP. Women drinking more than three drinks a day were 90% more likely to have HBP.” Harvard Nurses Study

“Studies have consistently shown that heavy consumers of soft drinks (with or without sugar) spill huge amounts of calcium, magnesium, and other trace minerals into the urine. Long-term consumption has been linked to high blood pressure and increased risk of heart attack and stroke.”   Doctor Michael Lam MD

"We have a hypertension epidemic in this country, it’s the sugar.”    Doctor Robert H. Lustig MD  UCSF

"NSAIDs have already been found to interfere with beneficial prostaglandin compounds, which lubricate and protect your blood vessels. Now they may also prevent them from dilating." Doctor Robert Rowen MD

"When arteries are soft and elastic, they readily expand and contract with each heartbeat. As arteries harden (calcify) and lose youthful elasticity, there is a progressive elevation in blood pressure.14 This happens because the heart is forced to beat stronger to force blood into the increasingly rigid arterial system. Calcification of the large artery exiting the heart (the aorta) helps explain why blood pressure elevates as people age. A hallmark sign of long-term hypertension is enlargement of the heart’s left ventricle,15 which is the chamber of the heart that pushes blood into the aorta from where it is then distributed throughout the body. The increase in cardiac workload caused by aortic rigidity (calcification) contributes to heart failure that afflicts over 5 million Americans.16,17 "   Turning to Stone

Uric acid causes HBP

Required for normal Blood Pressure

The simple primal act of getting LOTS of the high noon sun on your bare “unprotected” skin in large amounts just may be the most important single thing you can do for your health. If the sun casts a shadow longer than you are tall you cannot make adequate vitamin D from the sun. You MUST take vitamin D3 at the daily rate of about 1000 IU/20 pounds of body weight.

In a study women eating 25 grams of fiber a day were 25% less likely to develop HBP as women eating 10 grams.”   Harvard

“A group of diabetic men put on a high fiber diet saw their HBP drop by 10%.”   Doctor James Anderson, University of Kentucky

“The amount of monounsaturated fat in three table spoons of olive oil a day could lower HBP about 9/6.”   Stanford Research

"Omega 3 may be the principal dietary polyunsaturated fatty acid related to blood pressure."   William Fischer

“Individuals  with mild HBP who took 2,000 mg of omega 3 fatty acids daily for three months saw their BP drop by 6,5/4.4.”   University of Cincinnati

“Low levels of animal fat increased the rate of hemorrhagic stroke in hypertensive women 370% over those who ate more animal fat. Individuals with a very low intake of saturated fat may develop structural impairment of the arteries.”   Circulation

HBP is one of the major vascular disorders that magnesium can help.”  Dr. Jay Cohen

“Magnesium stimulates endothelial cells to produce a vasodilator.” Nadler and Rude

“One of the hallmarks of aging is the loss of collagen supporting structure throughout the body. Collagen reduction is visible and presents itself in the form of wrinkles on our face and skin surfaces during the aging process. Our blood vessel is also structurally supported by collagen. As this collagen structure deteriorates, stiffening of the arteries occurs. Indeed, the fact that arteries stiffen with age, and that such changes are associated with an increased incidence of major cardiovascular events and increase in blood pressure, is now established beyond doubt.”  Doctor Michael Lam MD

“Exercise alone has also been shown to increase the production of nitric oxide (NO) in the body. This may explain why exercises can reduce blood pressure. The effect of adding the amino acid arginine and vitamin C and E to an exercise program have been shown to synergistically increase NO production. Even without exercise, these supplements will work on their own to increase NO. Studies have shown that mice that were sedentary and fed supplements alone showed a 40% reduction in atherosclerotic legions compared to mice that were on a regular, high cholesterol diet but did not exercise or take supplements. Exercise alone without supplementation also shows a 35% reduction in legions. It can be concluded therefore that amino acid supplementation has an atherosclerotic reduction effect similar to exercise. Doing both exercise and supplementing with antioxidants concurrently will produce the best results.” Doctor Michael Lam MD   Note it will pay you large dividends to get to know Nitric Oxide and its role in circulation.

“CoQ10 deficiency has been found in 39% of patients with HBP.”  Murray & Pizzorno

Helpful for HBP

"When tested on hypertensive patients in a double-blind controlled clinical study a highly stable form of oleuropein [ ] reduced systolic BP by an average of 11.5 points, diastolic BP by 4.8 points and provided other vascular health benefits. Oleuropein has been shown to specifically target arterial resistance and stiffness, improving endothelial function and bringing blood pressure under control."   Life Extension

"In a study published in the Tehran University Medical Journal in which 37 hypertensive patients between the ages of 45 and 65 administered 6 grams of celery seed powder significantly lowered mean systolic and diastolic readings by 17.1 and 4.4 mmHg, respectively.17"   Time to Celebrate Celery

"Dr. Houston has had great success in getting his patients off blood pressure drugs with his program of diet, exercise, weight reduction, and supplements. After six months of his treatment protocol, 62% of his high blood pressure patients were able to stop taking drugs.20 According to Dr. Houston, the average American is consuming about 10 times the minimum requirement for sodium, and is consuming two times as much sodium as potassium. Consuming five times more potassium than sodium is recommended. For blood pressure reduction, Dr. Houston also recommends omega-3 fatty acids (especially DHA), a monounsaturated fat (such as olive oil), vitamin C, vitamin D, lycopene, pycnogenol, coenzyme Q10, and 500 to 1,000 mg per day of magnesium.20 "   HBP Treatment

"In an exciting new discovery, scientists have uncovered two natural extracts that have similar mechanisms to some of the most effective drug therapies for hypertension. Olive leaf extract has been shown to function as an ACE inhibitor and celery seed extract has potent calcium channel blocking properties.6,7 Clinical studies have demonstrated that both extracts are able to safely lower blood pressure.8,9 These specialized extracts offer a natural approach to blood pressure management."   Natural Extracts Lower Blood Pressure

“An analysis of eight controlled studies showed that one to two raw garlic cloves a day lowered mild HBP an average 8 percent in one to three months.” Doctor Andrew Neil Oxford

“Clinical studies seem to be pretty much in agreement that there is something in garlic that helps prevent blood clotting.” Eric Block PhD SUNY Albany

“Typically diastolic and systolic blood pressures drop by about 10% with CoQ10 therapy.” Langsjoen et al

“Vitamin E as gama-tocopherol protects animals from age related HBP.”    Newaz et al

An Approach for Dealing with YOUR HBP without drugs

http://www.dalycity.org/Assets/Departments/Police/images/Don$!27t+Do+Drugs.gif

HBP drugs are a 30 billion dollar INDUSTRY

IMO most HBP individuals have a lack of a vital nutrient, an excess of a toxin, too little exercise, overweight or stress. Correcting these problems will often lower your HBP, without drugs and improve you life vastly more than taking toxic drugs to lower your BP while retaining your basic problems.
