Sun Tanning Beds Protocol

     

Mother sun is best. Good Tanning Beds are next best, Vitamin D3 supplements are in third place

     

    

The simple primal act of getting LOTS of the high noon sun on your bare “unprotected” skin just may be the most important single thing you can do for your health IMO.

She is saying SUNSHINE cannot be completely replaced by Vitamin D3 supplements. I think she is correct; take the D3 BUT get all the SUNSHINE you are able.

Above the 35th parallel we can only make the CRITICAL vitamin D for about seven months out of the year. To keep up our vitamin D levels up in the winter and near winter we have a choice of tanning beds or vitamin D3 supplements. The vitamin D3 supplements, although better than nothing, will not produce the critical cholesterol-sulfate our bodies require. IMO find a healthy tanning bed and get at least some of your winter vitamin D from the UVB rays from the tanning bed.

What Does Cause Skin Cancer

“Since 1974, the increase of polyunsaturated fats has been blamed for the alarming increase in malignant melanoma (skin cancer) in Australia. (12) We are all told that the sun causes it. Are Australians going out in the sun any more now than they were fifty years ago? They are certainly eating more polyunsaturated oils: in Australia in 1995 I saw that even the cream on milk was removed and replaced with vegetable oil. Victims of the disease have been found to have polyunsaturated oils in their skin cells. Polyunsaturated oils are oxidized readily by ultra-violet radiation from the sun and form harmful 'free radicals'. These are known to damage the cell's DNA and this can lead to the deregulation we call cancer. Saturated fats are stable. The sun is capable of doing damage to your body. This damage can be gauged by the redness of your skin during and after exposure to the sun. The redder your skin the more sun has penetrated deeply and caused free radical damage. When beginning to tan make sure your sessions are short enough to avoid getting more than slightly pink. Use the supplement Astaxanthin to help avoid sunburn while allowing the production of vitamin D

There has been much controversy in the news lately over the use of tanning beds. IMO it is important to remember it is the UVA rays that are associated with minor skin cancer. Therefore it would seem that using a UVB tanning bed is the way to go.

In reading the condemnation of tanning beds a few facts stand out.

1) CMM, Cutaneous Malignant Melanoma the deadly skin cancer, has increased (About 300%) during a time when sun exposure has been falling.

2) CMM usually occurs on areas of the body normally covered by clothing while out in the sun.

3) Since 1970 the use of sun blocking lotions by humans has increased by 1700%, that is 17 times. During this period the incidence of CMM has increased 300%.

4) Minor skin cancer is believed to be associated in part by the UVA rays of the sun NOT the UVB rays which produce vitamin D. Note the UVA rays may be a necessary and NOT a sufficient minor skin cancer cause.

5) The sun is HIGHLY protective against CMM according to the latest data.

Therefore IMO if you use a tanning bed please use a UVB bed and do not exceed recommendations.

Incidentally if you wish to avoid skin cancer both CMM and minor skin cancers, as well as all 100 other human cancers, please stay away from the processed polyunsaturated vegetable oils and transfats found in fast food, processed food, junk food and all products made from processed polyunsaturated vegetable oil. IMO without this garbage oil in your skin the UVA rays of the sun/tanning bed will NOT help give you skin cancer and will cut your risk of ALL cancer. remember man has been living in the sun for hundreds of thousands but has just started to eat crap food and chemicals.

     

Using Tanning Beds

"Subjects who participated in regular use of tanning beds had higher 25(OH)D (Vitamin D)concentrations than those who did not.  In addition, tanners had significantly higher bone mineral density in the hip than did the non-tanners.  Further analysis of the results showed that the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among the non-tanners was 41.5%, and that among the tanners was only 8%. From this study, we can conclude that the regular use of a tanning bed that emits vitamin D–producing ultraviolet radiation (UVB rays) is associated with higher Vitamin D concentrations and thus may provide many medical health benefits, such as the protection against chronic diseases including hypertension, cardiovascular disease, type I diabetes, and common cancers. This study highlights the importance of Vitamin D production, for a lack of sunlight exposure can result in a vitamin D deficiency."   TANNING BEDS: A HEALTHY SOLUTION TO SUPPLEMENT VITAMIN D?

"Research shows that the standard UVB dose given during an average indoor tanning session greatly exceeds the recommended 25% of 1 minimal erythema dose (MED).  The MED is different for people of different skin types.  The recommended amount of UVB rays for people with type II skin is 12.6 minutes and people with type III skin is 17.7 minutes in a standard tanning bed.  The average time a person spends in a standard tanning bed is 20 minutes, far exceeding the recommended dosage.   Because it is recommended to get 25% of MED, the exposure time of UVB radiation in tanning beds is 4.5 to 7 times the amount needed for optimal Vitamin D production."   Levine, Note IMO 50% of a MED should be perfectly safe. In the summer once I have achieved a good tan I get MANY MEDs with no problems.

"To test the efficacy of tanning beds in fighting vitamin D deficiency, Holick and colleagues studied 15 people between the ages of 20 and 53. All participants had their blood vitamin D levels measured at the beginning of the study and then once per week for seven weeks. They each tanned in a commercial tanning bed three times per week. After one week, vitamin D levels had increased by an average of 50 percent, and by five weeks they had increased by 150 percent from the starting point.   • UVB radiation produces Vitamin D

  • UVA radiation produces no Vitamin D and helps cause most of the problems associated with the sun

  • Find a bed that has at least 5% UVB; this would give 95% UVA; this is identical to the sun

  • 10% UVB is better for many reasons

  • Some beds have only 1% UVB avoid these

  • Find a bed that has an electronic ballast

  • Magnetic ballast can cause health problems

  • Tan only as long as it takes to achieve a light pinkish skin

  • Do not get red; this indicates deep skin burning

  • Use the supplement Astaxanthin and others to help avoid sunburn while allowing the production of vitamin D

  • Do not wash your tanned skin for at least one day if you want your tanned skin oils to become vitamin D which you do want; only wash the stinky areas IMO. LOL.
