You MUST take some supplements IMO

You may remember the warning I gave you many months ago about herbs and other supplements coming from China. Many of them contain high levels of heavy metals. Now we know that we have more to worry about than just Chinese products. We now have to worry about those coming from India as well. The details came out in an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The authors said that about 20% of Ayurvedic medicines sold on the Internet have undesirable levels of lead, mercury, and/or arsenic. Ayurvedic medicine is an ancient Indian art of healing, as is traditional Chinese medicine. It centers around herbs. So why do these herbs contain contaminants?”   Doctor Robert Rowen MD

WOW Since we know high levels of Vitamin D also upregulate antibacterial peptides IMO take the GLY episodically after a skin burn or other trauma and make sure your vitamin D levels are at least 70 ng/ml

"A cocktail of vitamins, minerals and herbals may delay the major aspects of the aging process and extend lifespan by 10%, according to a mouse study from Canada led by David Rollo. Mice fed a supplement containing 30 dietary ingredients did not experience a 50% loss in daily movement like non-supplemented animals, according to findings published in the journal Experimental Biology and Medicine. The benefits were linked to increases in the activity of mitochondria, the power plants of the cells, as well as by reducing levels of free radicals produced by the mitochondria, said researchers from McMaster University. IMO You MUST Supplement

"In the study, the researchers gave surgery patients three different nutrients before surgery. They gave them 1,000 mg of vitamin C, 1,000 IU of alpha-tocopherol (three times a day), and 200 mcg day of intravenous selenium. Then they followed the trauma victims for complications. Here's what they found: The antioxidants lowered abdomen pressure (abdominal compartment syndrome) by 75%. They cut respiratory failure by about half. They halved surgical-site infections and abdominal wall complications. They cut overall infections by 20%. And they reduced respiratory failure by 38%.”   Doctor Robert Rowen MD

Supplements are a tool YOU REQUIRE to keep you in good health. In the US today with our political food and water supplies and our political toxic drug medical “Sick Care” regime it is foolhardy to assume it’s possible to get everything our bodies need from our food and tap water. Improving your mineral status by eating a whole food diet used to ensure that you got the right minerals in the correct quantities and proportions. But today supplementing is necessary because of increased chemical body burdens and the decreased mineral food values. Re-mineralization and adequate nutrients can improve the levels of long-term imbalances with truly life-changing results, and very quickly if administered in highly bio-available forms. As with minerals getting optimum vitamins and other nutrients is often chancy in today’s world.  

Then there are supplements like CURCUMIN and several others which have demonstrated so MANY benefits that it would be foolish not to take it.

  

Which Supplements do I Need?

The question then becomes what supplements do I need to take. We each need to work out our own answer. Here is how I work out my answer. It’s an endlessly reiterative process each time thru I will learn a little more.

  

Vitamin and Mineral Insurance

I know what I eat WILL NOT give me the about 3 grams of Vitamin C I need daily. I look at every other vitamin (See RDA Protocol) and decide if, when and how much I need to supplement. I then look at every mineral required by the human body and decide if, when and how much I need to supplement. 50 years ago perhaps I would not have needed to take too many vitamins and minerals as supplements but NOT today. Even eating whole raw fresh food I will be lacking several minerals, iodine, chromium, zinc and usually magnesium (See Magnesium Protocol) among others. Now I don’t need to supplement most of these vitamins and minerals everyday. For example to achieve the same vitamin E level you can take 200 units once a day or 800 units every four days. With vitamin E and the fat soluble vitamins it’s more important to take it with fat. A vitamin B complex should be taken every day, I am happy if I hit five days out of the week.  I am trying to get almost everything from my whole raw unprocessed food but my large and continuous supplementation is my acknowledgement that this is not possible with assurance. I take these supplements mostly for INSURANCE.

  

Synthetic vitamins are NOT Complete Vitamins

 

“This will be a short chapter, but after you're finished with it, you will know more about vitamins than 95% of clinical nutritionists, doctors, supplement sales force, or bodybuilders.   If that sounds arrogant or overstated, it really isn't my fault. I'm just a messenger; a purveyor of information. Either I'm right or the 95% are right; can't be both. Without further ado, here's the kernel: ascorbic acid is not vitamin C.   Alpha tocopherol is not vitamin E.   Retinoic acid is not vitamin A.   And so on through the other vitamins.   Vast sums of money have been expended to make these myths part of Conventional Wisdom.   If you have several college degrees and all this is news to you, don't feel bad. Supplements for specific condition Prophylaxis

Some supplements other than vitamins and minerals are taken on a continuous basis for specific conditions and health concerns. I find I NEED dozens and dozens of herbs, spices, enzymes, special foods and other supplements. For arthritis prophylaxis alone I take over a dozen herbs and supplements, for my eyes prophylaxis another dozen. Of course several of these are the same. And so it goes, Vitamin C alone is taken for dozens of different health conditions and concerns. Your body does not care WHY you gave it the vitamin C. Your body will just use the vitamin C for its most important uses first and any left over may go where you want.  Your job is to supply more than enough so ALL your needs are met. If you keep your body happy your body will keep you happy.

  

Supplements to correct an acute problem

Many herbs and supplements I only take 500 mg or so mg three or so times a week. If I have a specific problem I may take two or three grams of a supplement or a dozen supplements a day for a week or so until the problem clears up. As a rule I go light on a little of everything in prophylactic mode and flood a problem with targeted supplements.

For example I just tore up a foot with a bad twisting fall on cross country skis. I went on an immediate fast  this enabled me to take a couple of Bromelain every four hours while awake. I started taking about 10 grams of vitamin C (See Vitamin C Protocol) a day and most of the vitamins, minerals and supplements from the Required for Collagen Production (See Collagen Protocol) list and the Helpful for Collagen Production list. I soaked my foot in hot water with Epsom Salts (See Sports Injury Protocol) often thru the days and followed the MEAT Protocol (See RICE Protocol). As soon as I ended my fast I started to eat the foods on these lists as well as foods containing the vitamins and minerals on these lists. A week after my injury I am still taking the 10 grams of vitamin C a day as well as most of the other collagen building supplements and foods and soaking my foot often. I am walking lightly and attempting to move my unweighted injured foot thru its full range of motion often. My foot is and has been mostly pain free and its swelling is almost gone. It looks like it will take a few more weeks to completely heal. I will follow my collagen building routine at least until the swelling is gone and I am walking smartly.

  

Always Chew Pills before Swallowing

Unless a pill is coated to pass thru your stomach intact or for other reasons is designed to be swallowed whole IMO it’s wise to chew it into fine pieces in your mouth. This insures it gets digested. Capsules I do not chew but often empty from the capsule.

  

Consume Wisely

Instead of spending thousands of dollars a year on toxic drugs and “Medical Care”; I spend about two to four thousand for foods, vitamins and minerals, herbs, supplements and exercise gear that help keep me healthy and out in the woods exercising and out of the doc’s office brooding.
