Testosterone Protocol

“Testosterone delivered through a transdermal patch increased women’s perceptions of orgasmic pleasure.”    Braunstein 1999

“Studies have shown that supplementing with 30mg of Zinc and 450mg of magnesium per day can elevate testosterone levels up to 30%.”  Doctor Lorrie Brilla Western Washington University

“A human study comparing the dietary intakes of 155 pairs of male twins found a correlation between testosterone levels and vitamin A intake.” Bishop, et al

“There are many testosterone- receptor sites in the heart.” Bricout et al

“Low testosterone correlates with depression and other psychological disorders.” Moger

“In men low testosterone is associated with high LDL, low HDL, high triglycerides and HBP.  Administration of testosterone dilates blood vessels.” Channer et al

“The aphrodisiac effect was monitored by the act of yawning and stretching because yawning, either alone or associated with stretching, is considered an ancestral vestige surviving throughout evolution that promotes sexual arousal. The results showed that 800 mg/kg of E. longifolia Jack increased yawning by 50% and stretching by 16.7% in sexually sluggish old male rats, by 676-719% and 31-336%, respectively, in sexually active male rats, and by 22-44% and 75-100%, respectively, in middle aged, 9 months old and retired breeders. We conclude that the results of this study support the folk use of this plant as an aphrodisiac.” Ang HH, Lee KL, Kiyoshi M , Note Long Jack has been shown to increase testosterone up to 300%

“Low testosterone is an independent risk factor for developing aggressive coronary artery disease.” Philips et al

“Men with higher testosterone levels live longer and have lower rates of diabetes and heart disease.” Life Extension

“The consequences of testosterone deficiency are likely to impact on a men’s’ quality of life including sexual function, energy levels, body composition, mood and cognitive function.” Maggi et al

“Botanical agents such as maca, muira puama, chrysin, nettle, ginger and Norway spruce lignans can help alleviate many of the health complaints associated with male aging such as fatigue, low libido, poor memory and prostate enlargement. These botanicals may work in part by enhancing free testosterone levels while blocking the conversion of testosterone into estrogen. It is possible to slow or reverse changes associated with the age-associated decline in circulating free testosterone while counteracting aging-related increases in estrogen levels, thus enhancing overall vitality and health”  Life Extension

“Doctor Abraham Morgentaler has demonstrated that testosterone replacement therapy does NOT increase one’s risk for prostate cancer. Doctor Morgentaler shows increased risk of prostate cancer from low testosterone.”    Life Extension

“After age 60 hip fracture rates in men increase dramatically, doubling every ten years.” Doctor Ronald Klatz, Note 60 is where testosterone usually plunges in men

“Vigorous exercise on a routine basis has proven to maintain free circulating testosterone in the body.” Doctor Ronald Klatz

“An easy way for men with normal levels of testosterone to ensure proper testosterone levels in the body is by exercising.” Doctor Adrian Dobs

“Low testosterone is an independent risk factor for developing aggressive coronary artery disease.” Philips et al 2004

“An estimated 1.2 million osteoporotic fractures occur annually and more than half occur in the vertebrae. The incidence of osteoporosis is directly correlated to testosterone production in men and estrogen and progesterone production in women.” Doctor Ross Hauser, Note estrogen production depends on testosterone production in both women and men. Pregnenolone is the only hormone that acts as a precursor for progesterone in the steroid pathway.

"With the cessation of 80% of hormonal production, a peri-menopausal woman suffers from estrogen, progesterone and testosterone deficiency. The replacement of estrogen alone does not correct an absent sex drive, loss of muscle tone and general lack of mental get-up-and-go." Doctor Edward Lichten, MD, PC, Note you must assure the testosterone and pregnenolone feed stocks

"Testosterone is recognized as the hormone of desire: it makes muscles for boys and turns them into sexually functional men. But testosterone is very important to a woman, too. She produces increased amounts of this hormone in her puberty, because testosterone is the precursor to estrogen. Without testosterone, there would be no "woman."  Doctor Edward Lichten, MD, PC

"Aging males can suffer the dual consequence of declining testosterone production while the testosterone they do produce is often excessively converted into estrogen." Life Extension

"Aging men are plagued with declining testosterone levels while their estrogen remains the same or even increases. This imbalance often sets the stage for a host of chronic inflammatory disorders while increasing the amount of abdominal adiposity." Life Extension

"A new report proves that Tribulus terrestris can get your engines revved up… better than any other product designed to heighten male performance. German researchers working on a natural enhancement supplement gave it to 50 lucky men. They found it stoked the fires of their desire far better than the pharmaceutical products you've heard so much about. The men also said that once they took this safe botanical they had “better sex afterwards, more fun in bed and just generally felt better about themselves. Tribulus boosts performance and heightens desire. In fact it ratchets up your manliness across the board—something those prescription performance drugs can’t do. That’s because Tribulus raises your levels of “vitamin T”—testosterone."  Doctor Al Sears MD

"Keeping your testosterone levels high leads to lasting sexual pleasure. Testosterone lies behind male excitement, virility, and potency. If you don’t have enough, today’s drugs will do nothing to solve the problem." Doctor Al Sears MD, Note this applies to women also

"Doctor Wehr and colleagues, at the Medical University of Graz in Austria, just published a surprising study showing that testosterone levels are directly associated with vitamin D levels and testosterone levels vary with the seasons, in concert with vitamin D levels. Furthermore, the men with very low testosterone levels had very low vitamin D levels. This study does not prove, like any association study, that vitamin D increases testosterone levels. It may be that sun-exposure in the summer is responsible for both higher vitamin D levels and higher testosterone levels."   Doctor John Cannell MD

"By increasing both scavenger receptor B1 and hepatic lipase activities, testosterone facilitates an increase in reverse transport (HDL), a process that removes excess cholesterol from the tissues and carries it to the liver for processing and disposal."   Life Extension

Testosterone is a Man’s best friend, a Woman's very good friend

"Low testosterone levels can lead to low energy, sleepiness, irritability and depression (of course it's quite natural to be depressed and irritable if you can't perform in the bedroom!). It can ruin your mental focus and turn you into a weakling.”   Doctor William Douglass MD

You need to keep yours high. Women need a little testosterone too. It has often been found a little testosterone will boost a woman’s libido immensely, among many other functions both men and women require. Testosterone acts as an aphrodisiac hormone in brain (See Brain Protection Protocol) and as an anabolic hormone in the development of bone and skeletal muscle. As people age, testosterone becomes bound to serum globulin and is not available to the cell receptor sites; the unbound testosterone is known as “Free Testosterone”. When getting tested (See Medical Testing Protocol) for your testosterone levels be sure to get a test for FREE (See Avena Sativa Protocol) Testosterone in addition to any other Testosterone level tests. Low Testosterone levels increase your risk for many and serious problems including muscle, mental, sex drive and immunity loss, osteoporosis, heart disease, cancer, depression and obesity.

Age-related decline in Testosterone levels is the Norm

"As testosterone levels decline in men, their risk of dying markedly increases. Heart disease, osteoporosis and muscle wasting are strongly linked to testosterone deficiency as are chronic inflammatory and neurodegenerative disorders. Mainstream medicine's ignorance regarding the need to maintain free testosterone in the higher ranges is a significant cause of premature disability and death in aging men."   William Faloon

"Millions of men needlessly suffer form low sex drive, loss of energy and diminished enthusiasm for life because of low levels of the male hormone testosterone."   Life Extension

"Optimal sex hormone status including a healthy balance of testosterone and estrogen, is a core component of any anti-aging strategy."   Life Extension

"Testosterone which is critical for a robust body and sexual function in both sexes, is lowered by higher insulin."   Doctor Robert Rowen

But it is NOT inevitable. You must work to avoid this however. Aging men can convert testosterone to estrogen (See Estrogen Dominance Protection Protocol). The problem of excess estrogen must be addressed by both men and women or all the free testosterone in your blood will do you no good. A low Testosterone level may be indicated by low sexual desire in both men and women. A low sperm volume in men may indicate low testosterone. Women and men are being prescribed into a drug form of testosterone. IMO do this ONLY as a last resort when your have researched and tried everything else available to you. Stay away from drugs to boost your testosterone; you want to encourage your own body to produce more of its OWN free Testosterone . There are so many ways to build your free testosterone naturally most people can do it without drugs.

Testosterone for Women

"Testosterone is recognized as the hormone of desire: it makes muscles for boys and turns them into sexually functional men. But testosterone is very important to a woman, too. She produces increased amounts of this hormone in her puberty, because testosterone is the precursor to estrogen. Without testosterone, there would be no "woman."  Doctor Edward Lichten, MD, PC

Researchers gave supplemental testosterone to women between the ages of 31 and 56 who had undergone a hysterectomy. Hysterectomies lower circulating levels of testosterone. After 12 weeks, the women receiving testosterone showed significant improvement in mood, sexual function and overall well being. At the Jean Hailes Foundation in Australia – a non-profit research institution dedicated women’s health issues – Doctor Susan Davis found that testosterone is essential in maintaining a woman’s sex drive, energy level and sense of well being – regardless of her age.

Testosterone is made from Good Fats

Your body manufactures Testosterone from cholesterol (See Cholesterol Protocol), saturated fat (See saturated Fat Protocol) and DHEA (See DHEA Protocol). Saturated fat and monosaturated fat seem to increase testosterone production while polyunsaturated fats seem to lower testosterone production. Abundant animal research indicates the importance of vitamin A to the production of testosterone. Transfats (See Transfat Protocol) can decrease testosterone, often drastically.

Vitamin D and Testosterone

The simple primal act of getting LOTS of the high noon sun on your bare “unprotected” skin in large amounts just may be the most important single thing you can do for your health. If the sun casts a shadow longer than you are tall you cannot make adequate vitamin D from the sun. You MUST take vitamin D3 at the daily rate of about 1000 IU/20 pounds of body weight.

This may be a blockbuster. IMO it is a good bet to ASSUME getting your vitamin D levels up, especially through use of the sun, will improve your testosterone levels.

Testosterone Boosting Supplements

Tongkat Ali (See Tongkat Ali Protocol) alone will boost most people’s testosterone as will to a lesser extent tribulus (See Tribulus Protocol). In any case if you cannot get your testosterone levels up to acceptable levels please see an integrative doctor. Low Testosterone levels can be very serious.

Testosterone plays a vital role in many functions throughout the body note this is for both sexes

“Testosterone is more than a ‘male sex hormone.’ It is an important contributor to the robust metabolic functioning of multiple bodily systems.”   Doctor Jerald Bain MD

"Exercise is shown to maximize our declining levels of hormones as we age including the all important testosterone and growth hormone and to minimize insulin a serious aging hormone."   Doctor Robert Rowen MD
