Here we see an ascorbate salt is NOT the complete Vitamin C complex.
         

"Except for humans and primates, all other animals have the three enzymes in the liver which can synthesize vitamin C from glucose (a simple sugar). One major exception is the guinea pig, which is really a rodent and not a pig,  The guinea pig, for some unexplained reason, shares with humans the identical GLO genetic mutation and also lacks the GLO enzyme just like we do.  This makes the guinea pig an ideal experimental model for human diseases.  By the way, although animals that make vitamin C never get heart disease, the guinea pig which lacks the ability to synthesize vitamin C, also gets heart disease.  Doctor Jeffery Dach MD, Note this simple fact is the beginning to understanding how to prevent and cure CVD. Szent-Georgi discovered vitamin C in 1937. In all his research however, Szent-Georgi found that he could never cure scurvy with the isolated ascorbic acid itself. Realizing that he could always cure scurvy with the "impure" vitamin C found in simple foods, Szent-Georgi discovered that other factors had to be at work in order for vitamin activity to take place. So he returned to the laboratory and eventually made the discovery of another member of the Vitamin C Complex Components, as shown in the diagram above: rutin. All the factors in the complex, as Royal Lee and Dr. Szent-Georgi both came to understand, ascorbic acid, rutin, and the other factors, were synergists: co-factors which together sparked the "functional interdependence of biologically related nutrient factors." (Empty Harvest p120)   The term "wheels within wheels" was used to describe the interplay of co-factors.” Doctor Tim O'Shea

“If any of these parts are missing, there is no vitamin C, no vitamin activity.   When some of them are present, the body will draw on its own stores to make up the differences, so that the whole vitamin may be present. Only then will vitamin activity take place, provided that all other conditions and co-factors are present.  Ascorbic acid is described merely as the "antioxidant wrapper" portion of vitamin C; ascorbic acid protects the functional parts of the vitamin from rapid oxidation or breakdown.” Doctor Tim O'Shea   Note ascorbate can provide you a powerful tool but you must realize you also need ALL the other components of the Vitamin C COMPLEX. A good way to do this is to eat a COMPLETE Orange along with all those grams of ascorbate. I take a LOT, Rutin, Bioflavonoids, Quercetin, L-Tyrosine, hesperidin, bromelain and WHOLE Orange, of the Vitamin C Complex DAILY as my Vitamin C supplement.

"The 10 amino acids that we can produce are alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamic acid, glutamine, glycine, proline, serine and tyrosine. Tyrosine is produced from phenylalanine, so if the diet is deficient in phenylalanine, tyrosine will be required as well."    University of Arizona's Biology Project   Note folks this is KEY I suspect many of us are not getting sufficient L-Tyrosine

“Whole food vitamin C as found in potatoes, onions, and citrus fruits is able to quickly cure any case of scurvy. By contrast, the fractionated chemical ascorbic acid has been shown to be insufficient in resolving a scurvy condition, simply because it does not act as a nutrient.” Lancet 1842

Vitamin C is best treated as a complex of components or factors IMO. If all you are taking is ascorbic acid you are taking only a PART of this vitamin C Complex. Your body will use the ascorbic acid to the best of its ability BUT without the adequate vitamin C complementary components, the ability of just ascorbic acid to do the complete vitamin C job is limited.  

Vitamin C is Preventative Medicine at its finest. You spend a few bucks to assure this essential substance in your body. You rarely visit the "doctor"; you do not take toxic "drugs";  you do not visit the "hospital; you live long and prosper. Save bucks; save your health and life; prevent problems; rarely "treat" problems.

Here we see an ascorbate salt is NOT the complete Vitamin C complex.

The CDC et al tells us we only need about 75 mg of Ascorbic Acid/day. This is insane we NEED at least one WHOLE orange, 3 GRAMS of ascorbate and 3 GRAMS of complementary supplements and each and every day.

  

  • Eat one small or medium WHOLE Orange   Per Day for the Factors. This is perhaps the KEY to your Vitamin C Ingestion. Make sure to eat the PEELS. Eat every gram of the WHOLE Orange.

  • Ascorbinogen    This ascorbinogen will be converted by your body into ascorbate when required. Get from WHOLE, peels, seeds, integuments et al, of FRESH foods such as Orange Peels/Lemons or citrus.

  • Sodium Ascorbate/Ascorbic Acid    Three grams/day divided doses of one gram each

  • Oranges   EAT the PEEL

  • Bilberry    a good flavonoid and more

  • Flavonoids   increase the  longevity of the vitamin C action; very important for constant vitamin C action, get from Orange PEELS and supplements

  • Hesperidin   a good flavonoid, get from Orange PEELS, very important as we grow older

  • Quercetin   with bromelain for bioavailability, a good flavonoid, KEY for many salubrious body processes

  • Rutin   A good flavonoid, KEY for many salubrious body processes

  • L-Tyrosine   often a deficiently produced amino acid in adults, not strictly a vitamin C component but IMO treat it as one DAILY

  • Factor J   get from WHOLE, peels, seeds, integuments et al, of FRESH foods such as Oranges Peels/Lemons or citrus

  • Factor K   get from WHOLE, peels, seeds, integuments et al, of FRESH foods such as Lemons or citrus Oranges Peels/

  • Factor P   now recognized as a flavonoid

  • Other factors   get from WHOLE, peels, seeds, integuments et al, of FRESH foods especially as Oranges Peels/Lemons or citrus

Vitamin C is best treated as a complex of components or factors IMO. If all you are taking is ascorbic acid you are taking only a PART of this vitamin C Complex. Your body will use the ascorbic acid to the best of its ability BUT without the adequate vitamin C complementary components, the ability of just ascorbic acid to do the complete vitamin C job is limited.  

The Peels of citrus fruit, especially Oranges are especially important IMO. The PEELS contain many of the flavonoids and components of the vitamin C Complex in a very bioavailable and inexpensive form.

If you eat the orange peel you can TRIPLE your vitamin C from that orange, as well as more than triple the nutrients you obtain from the orange. Orange peels supply many very salubrious required nutrients.

       

Eat the WHOLE Orange, Especially the PEEL to get the Hesperidin and Hundreds of other nutrients not found in the flesh

Note if you make a slurry by blending the complete orange; drink ALL of the somewhat bitter slurry; discard NOTHING; add some water to make a less thick slurry. You will quickly appreciate the somewhat different taste.

If you take some flavonoids (See Flavonoid Protocol) with your other Vitamin C co-factor components you can increase the absorption of the Vitamin C complex by up to 300%. Flavonoids slow the release of vitamin C from your intestine thus increasing vitamin C’s salubrious effect. I use the bioflavonoids Rutin, Quercetin, Hesperidin and Bilberry. The enzyme (See Enzymes Protocol) bromelain is capable of increasing the intestinal absorption of quercetin so I take a capsule with both. These flavonoids are also healthy anti-oxidant supplements on their own. Supplementing with C may deplete your Copper so make sure you are getting enough copper if you are taking many tens of grams of ascorbate.

Sodium Ascorbate   you can easily make this non acid form of Ascorbate.

IMO get at least 6 Grams of the Vitamin C Complex Components a day when well; plus tens of Grams of Sodium Ascorbate when sick; Hundreds of IV Grams of Sodium Ascorbate when Seriously Sick.  

   

Vitamin E Recycles your Vitamin C; Assure your Vitamin E

After your Vitamin C has done its anti-oxidant job it becomes oxidized itself into dehydroascorbate. YOU can recycle this dehydroascorbate back into the anti-oxidant Ascorbate by having sufficient Vitamin E to do this job. This increases the anti-oxidant work any Vitamin C in your body can do.

Please note Vitamin E and other antioxidants  RECYCLES many anti-oxidants; so  make sure you have PLENTY of Vitamin E and other antioxidants, supplement Vitamin E.   

    

Blood Levels and Tissue Levels of Vitamin C and Other Nutrients

Don’t let anyone tell you six grams of vitamin C a day will end up as expensive urine. Even though your blood levels of vitamin C will not increase beyond a certain point your tissue levels WILL. You should keep your blood levels maxed out with C to increase the vitamin C levels in your tissues. You can best do this by taking your vitamin C every 8 hours or so. High tissue levels of vitamin C can keeping you in vitamin C for months; some vitamin C without taking a gram of vitamin C; you do not WANT to do this of course.

This becomes even more important when you are seriously sick and your body is able to absorb very large, often 50 grams or more orally/day; cancer victims can often absorb 300 grams IV vitamin C or so. You are able to absorb these large amounts because your tissues are taking all this vitamin C out of your blood, or in your blood, and BURNING it fighting your problem.

   

An Easy Way to Supplement the Vitamin C Complex Components

"What many people do not realize or are not told is that Real Vitamin C [ascorbic acid] is PURE ACID and must be buffered, so the body will absorb it. Sodium Bicarbonate or Baking Soda, is a buffering agent, & can be processed to contain trace minerals to help maintain the body’s pH longer."   Baking Soda and Vitamin C Protocol, Note some pros claim some acidic ascorbic acid is also REQUIRED

Here is an easy way to take your Vitamin C complex. Buy a large bottle each of Acerola and Rose Hips. Put 100 or so of both the acerola and rose hips in a single large bottle. Add a gram of ascorbic acid, a Hesperidin, a Rutin, a Quercetin & bromelain and a bilberry capsule for each two grams of acerola and rose Hips. Take a gram each of the ascorbic acid, acerola and rose hips together with the flavonoids each time you need some vitamin C.  When you take your C you can shake out a handful and pick out the six to eight capsules to take together.

I try to take about six grams of Acerola, Rose Hips and ascorbic acid and flavonoids, per day along with two grams of ascorbic acid. Many research studies use about three grams. Why do you suppose they use THREE GRAMS?

 “Heart disease patients were given either 1000 mg or 2000 mg of vitamin C a day to access the effects of vitamin C on the breakdown of fibrinogen. At 1000 mg there was no effect. At 2000 mg a day of vitamin C however there was a 27% decrease in the platelet-aggregation index, a 12% reduction in cholesterol and a 45% increase in fibrinolytic activity.” Bordia 

 When I have the flu or other virus (See Virus Protocol) I take LOTS of C. Vitamin C is a supplement (See Supplement Protocol) you NEED to take by the GRAM not milligram. Studies have shown you can take 10,000 mg of vitamin C a day for many years with no ill effects. Doctor Linus Pauling took much more than this for forty years and lived to a ripe 93. Vitamin C is constantly used up by your body or excreted in your urine so you must constantly ingest it. I try to take my vitamin C at least twice a day most days.
