Alcohol Protocol

“Heavy drinkers were six times more likely to suffer a stroke than moderate drinkers. Moderate drinkers were much less likely to suffer strokes than nondrinkers.” University of Helsinki

Exercising daily, eating a diet high in fiber and folic acid, and maintaining a healthy weight will do far more to reduce your risk of breast cancer than forgoing a daily glass of wine. My advice? We know these three things about Alcohol

1) Alcohol is extremely harmful to your health in quantity

2) Alcohol has antiinflammatory properties in small amounts

3) One drink or so a day has been demonstrated to be healthful

   

A small amount of Alcohol may be beneficial

"According to Harvard Medical School, alcohol in any form is known to help protect the heart, and moderate drinkers have lower rates of heart attack, strokes, blood clots, and overall death from heart disease. In fact, the overall risk reduction ranges between 25% and 40%. That’s a pretty significant benefit. Moderate drinking has been shown to increase levels of “good” (HDL) cholesterol, improve your body’s sensitivity to the hormone insulin (which helps control blood sugar), reduce your blood’s tendency to clot (which helps prevent the formation of clots that cause heart attack and stroke), and reduce the risk of diabetes."    The Simple Mediterranean Diet Dr. Ariel Soffer

    

Study after study shows people who have a drink or so a day, ONE for women and at most two drinks for a man, often have better health. Here is what I think is going on. We know alcohol in large amounts is harmful but apparently the stress (See Stress Protection Protocol) reduction, anticoagulation benefit and other benefits of small daily amounts of wine and other alcohols outweigh the negatives of this small amount of alcohol. So enjoy a glass of wine on occasion. Hard alcohol seems to be less healthful than wine. Red wine seems to be more healthful than white. Beer appears less healthful than red wine.

However IMO don’t take up drinking if you do not drink, there is a risk you may be predisposed to alcoholism. But if you want a drink at a wedding or other occasion have one. You can obtain the benefits of alcohol by far more healthful means but most of us like a drink now and then.
