GLA Protocol

    

IMO we should not rely totally on our body production but get a little GLA directly from our foods and supplements especially as we grow older

Omega 6 EFA can be a feedstock for GLA

Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is an essential fatty acid your body can make from omega 6 EFA (See Omega 6 EFA Protocol). In many individuals the body’s production or effectiveness of GLA production is compromised, especially as we grow older. Malnutrition, consumption of hydrogenated oils and diabetes inhibit the conversion of omega-6 acid to GLA.

GLA an Essential Nutrient

"Because GLA obtained from dietary sources is more likely to convert to prostaglandin E1. Those who take supplements like borage oil should make sure the borage oil also contains at least 10 mg of standardized sesame lignans."   Life Extension, Note I just eat a table spoon of raw sesame seeds with my GLA supplements.

GLA-rich oils have been used to treat cancer, joint problems, inflammation, skin problems, premenstrual syndrome, breast disease, irritable bowel syndrome, hair loss and cystic fibrosis. Light, heat and air are the top enemies of oil. Keep oil in a dark glass bottle in your fridge, tightly sealed. Oxygen promotes rancidity. Oil can easily go rancid when exposed to air, light or high temperatures.
