"Sulfur is required for the synthesis of glutathione, one of our premier endogenous antioxidants. I’ve talked a bit about glutathione before. It’s one of the good ones. Sulfur, in the form of disulfide bonds, provides strength and resiliency to hair, feathers, and feathered hair. Sulfur is required for taurine synthesis. Taurine is essential for proper functioning of the cardiovascular system, our muscles, and the central nervous system. Sulfur binds the two chains of amino acids that form insulin. It may seem like we bag on insulin a lot, but it’s absolutely necessary for life. Sulfur is found in methionine, an essential amino acid (think meat, eggs, cheese), and in cysteine, a “non-essential” amino acid (think pork, poultry, eggs, milk)."   Why you should eat sulfur rich vegetables

 We require Sulfur to live. Sulfur is used to build proteins and detoxify many substances. Sulfur, in the form of cholesterol-sulfate may play an important part in the operation of our hearts and brains

A diet high in meat and animal products may supply too MUCH sulfur and result in the loss of calcium and an acidic ph. A diet low in meat and animal products may not supply enough Sulfur. Suboptimal Sulfur levels can be a problem for many people. This may result in suboptimal detoxification because sulfur is a key element in the sulfation and methylation detoxification pathways.

 Sulfur is found in meat and animal products, fresh uncooked, unprocessed foods, cruciferous vegetables. legumes, onions, garlic, cabbage, Olive oil, coconut oil, and Brussel sprouts.

Epsom Salt is an inexpensive source of both magnesium and sulfur; for ingestion use infrequently and in small amounts. You will see why if you overdo; it does make a good GI Tract flush/cleanse. I use a cup in my baths.

     

Sulfur Functions

"Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) is a gaseous byproduct (frequently remarked to be the causative smell of eggs[41]) that appears to act as a signalling molecule, similar to Nitric Oxide in the sense that it promotes vasorelaxation of blood vessels (although the mechanism is by stimulating KATP channels[42][43]) and has anti-oxidative capabilities. A circulating H2S pool of 10-100uM exists in the human body[44][45] although higher (130uM) has been reported in healthy persons. ... Sulforaphane Properties

Doctor Stephanie Seneff PhD believes your heart and brain BOTH require cholesterol sulfate to function. This cholesterol sulfate is created by sunshine on your skin; or by converted homocysteine; or in your blood stream in arterial plaque. The coronary arteries, feeding blood into your heart is often the site of arterial plaque. IMO this may indicate you may not be getting enough sun and-or may have excess homocysteine in your blood.

Some sulfur is obtained from cysteine resulting from the converted homocysteine. If the homocysteine is not converted this may result in your heart and-or brain running low on  the critical cholesterol sulfate.

Aging and Sulfur

"Overcooking vegetables, including cabbage, is one of the best ways I know to rob vegetables of their nutrient benefits; when it comes to cabbage this includes its sulfur-related benefits. I recommend about five minutes (at most) for the steaming or "Healthy Sautéing" of raw cabbage. As we age we lose much of our ability to produce our internal sources of sulfur as from sunshine. For example we know a 70 year old man needs about three to four times as much sunshine as a 20 year old man to produce the same amount of vitamin D. We also lose some of our ability to make bioavailable much of our raw ingested sources of sulfur.

Why do we become more sickly as we age? Do you think sulfur has something to do with it? You bet it does! Please work to assure you get sufficient sulfur. The extremely bioavailable and digestible sulfur in EGGS and GARLIC is a great place to start; just make sure you UNDERCOOK those eggs.

MSM (See MSM Protocol) supplies high quality sulfur. I try to take 3 grams of MSM often and LOTS when I am having a detoxification problem. After each hike I take 7 or so grams a day for a week or so to flush out any parasites I may have acquired.

Now with  the radiation detoxification scare I am taking it at least once or twice a week.
