Most people poorly absorb curcumin. Doctor Russell Blaylock MD has found that taking Turmeric with a little good fat (See Fat Soluble Nutrients Protocol) greatly increases curcumin absorption. Taking your curcumin with a little black pepper or piperine also greatly increases its absorption. I try to do both. A good curcumin supplement should include some piper nigrum. 

Turmeric contains less than 2% of curcumin (See Curcumin Protocol) so if you are using turmeric for a serious condition, consider using curcumin in addition. Also since ar-turmerone enhances the bio-availability of Curcumin make sure you always take some turmeric root with any Curcumin you may be taking. 

 For serious problems consider one to two grams of curcumin a day in divided dose taken with food. IMO EVERYONE over 40 or so should take some curcumin at least once a week or so; just for its iron chelating and anti-cancer properties if noting else.
