HBP Protection and Treatment Protocol Continuation

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/p480x480/374653_10151457199729475_578738832_n.jpg

The Medical Industry does not want to cure disease it wants to TREAT your disease until you DIE before your time. HBP drugs will do that unless used in an emergency, Blood Pressure over 160/100

An Approach for Dealing with YOUR HBP without drugs

"Hawthorne has been used for centuries as a heart tonic. Just like garlic, it works to relax the blood vessels. It does this by inhibiting enzymes called angiotensin-converting enzymes. (They are what cause your blood vessels to constrict.) Prescription drugs like ACE inhibitors work the same way - with far more dangerous side effects. In one clinical trial, hawthorn effectively reduced diastolic blood pressure. I recommend you take 1,000 mg of hawthorn extract daily."   Doctor Robert Rowen MD

"The blood pressure-lowering abilities of reishi mushrooms have been known for centuries. Studies in China have found that reishi mushrooms improve blood flow and lower oxygen consumption in the heart. Japanese research has made similar discoveries, which they say is due to a chain of acids belonging to triterpenes, a group of natural compounds known to reduce high blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and prevent blood clots. Russian research found that Ganoderma prevented plaque build-up on artery walls."    9 Health Benefits of Reishi Mushrooms

IMO most HBP individuals have a lack of a vital nutrient, an excess of a toxin, too little exercise, overweight or stress. Correcting these problems will often lower your HBP, without drugs and improve you life vastly more than taking toxic drugs to lower your BP while retaining your basic problems.

HBP is quite involved 90% of the time the doctor prescribing the toxic HBP drugs for you does not know what is causing your HBP. He is working from a one size fits all playbook. You could spend years just reading the research on HBP let alone understanding it. Most doctors review the research on HBP drugs, if they have the time. You need an integrative doctor who understands both the drug and natural worlds and will try the natural first.

If you but read the HBP research which is included in this protocol you will get a good idea of what you have to do to get your HBP down. Try to do each and every thing indicated; everything indicated will be helpful for many other aspects of your health. High Blood Pressure is just a SYMPTOM of your overall health IMO.

Please Avoid HBP Drugs (the "cure" that causes 85,000 deaths/year)

http://www.vegsource.com/articles/figure1.jpg

Note the water only fasting will cleanse your system of excess sodium and other possibly HBP elements

“The problem here is that just because the drugs have made the hypertension go away, that doesn't mean you're "cured"--or even safe, for that matter. People taking blood pressure lowering medications inevitably feel worse on the drugs. You would think this would signal to the doctor that he's making the patient worse, and that the pressure is elevated for some good physiological reason. But most likely, he'll just continue to prescribe away.” William Campbell Douglass MD

You take the little pills, your pressure comes down, and the doctor is a genius.

I wish it were that simple, but what else happens?

Your heart feels like a fish flopping around in a bucket. You feel like you are going to faint, especially if you stand up quickly. You figure you can live with that; you just won’t stand up quickly. But if going from sitting to standing can cause you to faint, how about going from flat on your back to standing? This sudden drop in your pressure can cause a stroke, and off to the emergency ward you go. But the calcium channel blocker won’t take any of the blame: After all, your doctor prescribed it to you to prevent a stroke brought on by high blood pressure.

The “cure” that causes 85,000 unnecessary deaths each year, these “Kalcium Kardiac Killers” (KKK) can also cause heart failure, heart attacks, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver and kidney damage, and reduced white blood cell count (causing you to be more susceptible to infections). And another common–and deadly–possibility is their interaction with other drugs, which can lead to any of the above disasters.

Clinical experience indicates that getting rid of HBP SYMPTOMS with drugs usually leaves the underlying hypertensive generating condition(s) unaffected. Getting your BP down with drugs most of the time leaves the cause of your HBP intact and now silently growing in severity. Getting your BP down without drugs usually indicates you have solved your underlying problem(s) even if you do did not know what they were. This is one reason HBP can be so frustrating. You must clean up your life (See Lifestyle Sicknesses Protection Protocol). The up side is that you will have obviated perhaps dozens of potential problems also unknown to you.

You can look at YOUR HBP as a very positive thing if you learn to deal with it without drugs.

http://www.dalycity.org/Assets/Departments/Police/images/Don$!27t+Do+Drugs.gif

HBP drugs are a 50 billion dollar INDUSTRY.

“Studies affirm the need for a population-wide effort for health promotion through lifestyle modification.”   Miura et al, Vasan et al

Two million new cases of HBP are diagnosed each year in the US; 50 million people have HBP; 100 million of us IMO have blood pressure that could be lower for optimal health, a large percentage of all drugs prescribed are for HBP. Clearly the standard medical approach to HBP is not working well; well for the patients anyway, it is generating a ton of cash for someone.

If you are able to bring your blood pressure down to good levels without the drugs you will have cleared up some unknown problems in your body and will see benefits to your health far beyond your lowering your blood pressure.

Stress

Type A personalities tend toward HBP. Whether we are Type A, B, C or D in not too many years we all will be pushing up daisies.  When we relax (See Relax Protocol) our BP tends to drop. You should not worry about the things you cannot do anything about. You should not worry about the things you have control over. So what is there to worry about???

Taking High Blood Pressure Drugs

http://www.dalycity.org/Assets/Departments/Police/images/Don$!27t+Do+Drugs.gif

HBP drugs are a 50 billion dollar/Year INDUSTRY

"There is just no benefit in medically lowering blood pressure below 140/100. The researchers were quick to point out that those with natural blood pressure 115/70 have fewer heart attacks. But medically treating to get your blood pressure that low doesn't help. If your BP is more than 160, you are at increased risk of stroke (blood vessels can break at high pressure). There is a clear place for medical intervention — to prevent a vessel from blowing out. So if you have extremely high blood pressure, you need medication until you can find the cause. "  Doctor Robert Rowen MD

The Lancet Oncology finds that patients who take any one of an entire class of hypertension meds, angiotensin-receptor blockers, are more likely to get cancer. The analysis of more than 60,000 patients who took part in five trials found a 10 percent increase in cancer versus those taking a placebo. Researchers were looking to see if Benicar could lower kidney risk in diabetics when they noticed that more people on the med were dying of heart-related problems than in the placebo groups, according to the FDA. A little cancer here, a few heart attacks there, and pretty soon you're talking about a real death toll. Throw in the other risks from blood pressure meds -- like impotence and diabetes -- and you've got a disease party... and everyone has an invitation. Blood pressure meds did $20.4 billion in sales last year, up from $13 billion in 2000.”   Doctor William Douglass MD

"A very recent study is now turning 30 years of medical dogma along with the associated drugging on its head. The latest independent experts now report that blood pressure drugs used to treat mild cases of high blood pressure not only do not reduce heart attacks, strokes, or overall deaths, but that they come with a litany of nasty "side effects" from loss of libido to sudden pain, urinary infections, asthma symptoms, insomnia, depression, coughing, rashes, dizziness, drowsiness, constipation, diarrhea and on and on. One of the "side effects" of these unnecessary medications is death."   Natural News Blood Pressure Drugs Worthless

“Another strike against HBP drugs is increasing evidence that they may be doing more harm than good. Virtually every medical authority has recommended that non-drug therapies be used with mild hypertension. Most cases of HBP can be brought under control through diet and lifestyle.”    Murray & Pizzorno

“In an 8 year study of 117,534 people, half were given HBP drugs and the other half a placebo. The number of deaths at the end of the 8 years was about the same in both groups.” Nuesch et al

“Few patients with marginal hypertension require drug treatment.” Journal of Cardiology

"Most blood pressure drugs do not address the cause of the disease, which commonly are age-related changes in blood sugar or hardening of the arteries, resulting in inability of the blood vessels to dilate upon physical or mental exertion or stress.”  Bill Sardi

If your BP is over about 160/100 (But Please measure your own BP, see below) Doctor Robert Rowen recommends you follow your doctor’s recommendations for HBP drugs. IMO you only want to take drugs from an integrative doctor. At pressures below these drugs may harm more than help you. If you are on or choose to go on the toxic HBP drugs you can research HBP and learn how to get your BP down eventually without drugs.  You should have an integrative doctor to help you with your drug adjustments which will be required as your HBP drops from YOUR efforts.

The good part is you will learn much about your body and this knowledge will help you avoid other potentially much worse problems. It may take some time and research on your part but you can get your HPB down without the drugs. No one can do this for you. YOU must do it your self. If after trying to lower your BP naturally and trying with the aid of an integrative doctor you are not able to lower your HPB below 140/90 your integrative doctor may suggest some drugs. This will not happen if YOU take charge of YOUR life, make the lifestyle changes necessary and get YOUR HBP down.

May all your Medicines be Green

CAUTION: IMO before going on the highly toxic HBP Drugs give this highly effective HBP supplement a try. It has a good chance of getting your HBP down below 160/100 where you can deal with it without drugs using the methods given here.   http://www.pressassure.com/

So why not just take this one simple supplement? IMO you should ultimately shoot for 120/80 or lower. PressAssure alone will probably not be able to do this. If PressAssure can save you from the toxic drugs that should be enough.

Measuring Your own Blood Pressure

"Daily blood pressure monitoring is mandatory to ensure the nutrient regimen is helping to keep your blood pressure under control."   Life Extension

"The truth of the matter is that the mainstream has been lowering blood pressure targets for years. This hasn't made anyone healthier, it's just created more customers for unnecessary drugs -- with some patients now taking two or even three hypertension meds. But if you've been checking your blood pressure yourself at home with an accurate $40 monitor like the one used in the new study, you'll know the real score. Then, when your doc suggests those meds, you can "just say no" -- and have the ammunition you need to back yourself up.”  Doctor William Douglass MD

"When it comes to lowering blood pressure, at-home monitoring is essential to ensure that optimal 24-hour protection is achieved. The availability of low-cost and reliable at-home blood pressure monitors makes this easy."   Why 24-Hour Blood Pressure Control Matters

"In revising their definition of optimal systolic pressure to below 120 mmHg, the American Heart Association suggests people have their blood pressure tested once every two years at their doctor’s office. This suggestion makes no sense considering that low-cost at-home monitors are widely available and are proven to enable superior 24-hour blood-pressure control."   Practical Steps to Blood-Pressure Control   Note my goodness is the AHA sleeping through life?

"In a randomized, controlled trial, 136 participants with uncontrolled high blood pressure were assigned to at-home blood-pressure monitoring or usual care. Their medication regimen was not modified. Those who regularly monitored their blood pressure at home saw significant reductions in systolic and diastolic blood pressure compared with those who did not self-monitor. At the end of the two-month trial, 32.4% of the self-monitoring (at-home) group had blood pressure of less than 130/80 mmHg, while only half as many participants—16.2%—who did not self-monitor saw their blood pressure fall below this level. Several other studies have found similar benefits associated with at-home blood-pressure monitoring. Reliable blood pressure monitors are widely available in pharmacies without the need for a prescription."    Lower Blood Pressure Slashes Dementia Risk

Your first problem is how do you measure YOUR blood pressure? There are dozens of problems in getting an accurate reading at your doctor’s office. The standard procedure for obtaining an accurate BP is often not followed by over worked assistants. Often people are diagnosed with HBP when what they have is “White Coat Syndrome” a fear of medical facilities which elevates their BP while in the doctor’s office.  Once out of the doctor’s office their BP returns to normal.  Many of these poor souls are put on the toxic HBP drugs when they have normal BP. Please don’t let this happen to you. Trust little measure much.

You need to be able to take a reading dozens of times a day to understand how your blood pressure responds to your life and the life you will soon be living. To do this you need a BP reading device you always carry with you. Here are some good ones. Blood Pressure Measuring Devices Decide which one of these or ones like these will work best for you.

IMO if like me you almost never visit a doctor and are over 50 or so; you need to get a good blood pressure monitoring device and measure every other week or so.  About half of us over 60 or so have either pre-hypertension or hypertension and you NEED to be aware of this.

Keep a BP Diary

When you correlate your BP with the things you do, eat and feel you will discover things that will blow your mind. For example how do you think several hours of shoveling snow would affect your BP? What about an evening of dancing (with a little sex thrown in)? No kidding about the sex; hey sometimes "doctor says" can be quite pleasurable.

How about eating some chocolate? I won’t tell you what my experience is although I can say I was often VERY surprised. Some things you do, eat and feel will effect your BP almost immediately others over hours, days and months. You will be trying LOTS of things so you must become somewhat of a detective.

Life Extension's Natural Approaches to Blood Pressure Control

"What these studies found was that controlled-release melatonin in particular was most effective at controlling nighttime blood pressure. Only controlled-release melatonin had significant effects on systolic blood pressure, reducing it by an average of 6.1 mmHg, while immediate-release melatonin produced only an insignificant 0.3 mmHg reduction. Controlled-release melatonin also lowered diastolic blood pressure significantly by an average of 3.5 mmHg, while the immediate-release formulation lowered diastolic pressures by just 0.2 mmHg."   Why 24-Hour Blood Pressure Control Matters

"Melatonin levels fall with age, which results in impaired sleep and also contributes to some of the consequences associated with disordered sleep, such as accelerated cognitive decline, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic disorders.43 Many of these effects are now thought to be related to melatonin’s impact on specific brain cells and regions of the brain involved in controlling our day/night cycles.44 Some chronic conditions, such as elevated blood sugar, can suppress normal melatonin production, perhaps accounting for poor sleep in diabetics. Replacing or boosting deficient melatonin has been shown to help normalize sleep/wake patterns and enhance good sleep.44,46 Studies show that raising melatonin levels can counteract the impaired activity/rest cycles common in older animals.47 And a human study has now shown that raising melatonin levels can improve sleep patterns, quality, and duration."   Why 24-Hour Blood Pressure Control Matters

"The hormone melatonin has numerous mechanisms of action that help lower blood pressure. It dilates blood vessels38 and inhibits “fight-or-flight” signals from the sympathetic nervous system.38,39 It also helps regulate mitochondria—the energy-producing structures inside cells—to maintain a cardiovascular function.40 But what makes melatonin especially noteworthy is its impact on nighttime blood pressure. Studies have shown that melatonin helps regulate circadian rhythms and reduces nighttime blood pressure.41-43 This is important for everyone with hypertension—but it is especially important for the 35% of non-dippers."   Around-the-Clock Blood-Pressure Control

In addition to, or in lieu of prescription drugs, several natural compounds are available that not only help lower blood pressure but help keep it down around the clock. Each compound has a different but complementary mechanism of action:

  • Flavonoids block a receptor for the angiotensin hormone that can elevate blood pressure.
  • Stevioside slows calcium signaling in order to relax blood vessels.
  • Time-release melatonin provides control over nighttime blood pressure elevations. Almost all of us over 50 NEED supplemental melatonin in ANY CASE,

These compounds work by multiple, clinically validated mechanisms to control blood pressure both day and night to maximally lower the risks of blood pressure-related health problems. Look at each individually.

Following All These Actions to Improve Blood Pressure

May all your Medicines be Green

All the things listed in this protocol for HBP are just healthy things you can do for most ANY health problem. They constitute part of a healthy lifestyle IMO. So look at them not as tedious but as more or less required for a healthy body. Try do perform as many as you are able; the more the lower your blood pressure and the better all aspects of YOUR health.

Eliminate Wheat from Your Diet

"This strategy[Eliminating Wheat from the Diet}, as unexpected as it might be to many people, is probably the most potent strategy we have employed in our heart disease prevention and reversal clinic. It is not uncommon in our clinic to see blood pressure reductions of 20-40 mmHg, along with reduction or elimination of the “need” for blood pressure-reducing medication, not to mention dramatic weight loss, correction of cholesterol distortions (reduction in triglycerides, increased HDL, decreased LDL), and reduced inflammation."   Life Extension

"Wheat is among the most destructive ingredients in the modern diet, worse than sugar, worse than HFCS, worse than any fat. What other common food can result in such an extensive list of diseases even death?"   Life Extension

"Reverting back to basic foods, especially reducing or eliminating wheat grains, cornstarch and sugars, can reduce blood pressure substantially."    Life Extension

Modern pigmy wheat is not your grandfather's wheat. This species was introduced in the 1950s and has proved disastrous to our diet. Inflammation and all sorts of health problems which can result in high blood pressure can and often do result from eating this poison. Please check out the Wheat Protocol.

Of Course Eliminate Sugar from Your Diet

"High-fructose corn syrup, and overly-sugared foods is a guaranteed path towards high blood pressure, not to mention cholesterol distortions, increased inflammatory responses, and obesity.16,17  Reduce Blood Pressure—Naturally

"Reverting back to basic foods, especially reducing or eliminating wheat grains, cornstarch and sugars, can reduce blood pressure substantially."    Life Extension

"We have a hypertension epidemic in this country, it’s the sugar.”    Doctor Robert H. Lustig MD  UCSF

"Most blood pressure drugs do not address the cause of the disease, which commonly are age-related changes in blood sugar or hardening of the arteries, resulting in inability of the blood vessels to dilate upon physical or mental exertion or stress.”  Bill Sardi

“Studies have consistently shown that heavy consumers of soft drinks (with or without sugar) spill huge amounts of calcium, magnesium, and other trace minerals into the urine. Long-term consumption has been linked to high blood pressure and increased risk of heart attack and stroke.”   Doctor Michael Lam MD

"It turns out that one of the most profound ways to raise uric acid is by consuming the simple sugar fructose. fructose breaks down into a variety of waste products that are bad for your body, one of which is uric acid. As it turns out, uric acid drives up your blood pressure."    Doctor Richard Johnson MD

Is Sugar Hiding in Your Diet?

I will not take a lot of your time; just visit the Sugar and Disease protocol. No health conscious person can eat the sugar poison and not know the consequences. It is HARD to avoid sugar please do it as much as you can. You can start by refusing to put a spoonful or more of granular sugar into ANYTHING including our precious coffee. The coffee itself is good for you.

Eliminate Transfats and hydrogenated fats

"The proliferation of “trans” or hydrogenated fats was among the many nutritional mistakes made in the misguided low-fat era. Hydrogenated vegetable shortening, followed by margarines and countless processed foods, increased Americans’ intake of “trans” fats dramatically.21 It increased the risk of heart attack, cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure with it.22,23 Elimination of “trans” fats is therefore a crucial step in gaining control over blood pressure. Eliminate “trans” fats simply by examining the label: if it lists hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils, don’t buy it. Even better, buy foods that don’t require a label, like cucumbers and tomatoes."    Life Extension

"Harvard University researchers looked at 12 dietary, lifestyle and metabolic risk factors such as tobacco smoking and high blood pressure and used a mathematical model to determine how many fatalities could have been prevented if better practices had been observed. The study, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Association of Schools of Public Health, drew on 2005 data from the U.S. National Health Center for Health Statistics. They determined that there were 72,000-96,000 preventable deaths each year due to omega-3 deficiency, compared to 63,000-97,000 for high trans fat intake.”

"Trans fats displace the essential fatty acids linoleic acid (omega-6) and linolenic acid (omega-3), which the body needs for a variety of functions. Kummerow’s own research, published last month in the journal Atherosclerosis, found that trans fats also interfere with the function of a key enzyme essential to blood flow regulation."    Nonagenarian researcher petitions FDA to ban trans fats

"Natural cis-molecules are more dispersed. Unnatural trans-[fat]-molecules are more sticky. They make [blood] platelets more sticky,  increasing the likelihood of a clot in a small blood vessel causing strokes, heart attacks or circulatory occlusions in o the organs. such as lungs, extremities and sense organs."    Udo Erasmus PhD, Note if you build  your body with trans fats and other man made fats, such as soybean oil, not EFAs and good natural saturated fats LOTS of bad things will happen

Transfats, hydrogenated vegetable oils, have been PROVEN to be so harmful you dare not ingest this garbage even if you are not worried about HPB.

Take Care with Alcohol

“Three or more alcoholic drinks a day is the most common cause of reversible hypertension.”   N. M. Kaplan University of Texas

“Two beers, two glasses of wine or a shot of liquor had no effect on blood pressure. Women drinking between two and three drinks a say were 40% more likely to have HBP. Women drinking more than three drinks a day were 90% more likely to have HBP.”   Harvard Nurses Study

Too much alcohol can raise your blood pressure. One drink a day or so can lower your blood pressure.

Salt

http://www.vegsource.com/articles/figure1.jpg

Note the water only fasting will cleanse your system of excess sodium and other possibly HBP elements

"One-third to one-half of the people with hypertension are significantly benefited by lowering salt intake."   Life Extension

"The amount of salt in the typical American diet greatly exceeds what is derived from a natural diet. In this respect the level of sodium chloride intake is pharmacological with pronounced but insidious side effects."   Life Extension

"The INTERSALT trial of over 10,000 people in 32 countries found those with the lowest BP had the highest potassium levels and those with the highest BP had the lowest potassium levels."   Prevention

"For example, lead toxicity or potassium deficiency can cause high blood pressure. "   Doctor Robert Rowen MD

“Too little potassium leads to sodium retention, which over time may trigger high blood pressure.” G. Gobal Krishna MD Temple University

"For HBP eat four or five stalks of celery a day for a week, take three weeks off and repeat the cycle."   Prevention, Note they take the three weeks off because celery is high in sodium. IMO if your potassium is high, as it should be, eating celery every day may work try it if during the three weeks your BP rises

"Previous studies have told us that when patients take diuretic thiazides, potassium levels drop and the risk of diabetes climbs to 50 percent. Now, for the first time, we think we have concrete information connecting the dots." Tariq Shafi, M.D., M.H.S., Johns Hopkins University S of Medicine

“Salt and high blood pressure don’t mix. According to the Mayo Clinic, if you cut even a little bit of salt from your diet, it can result in lowering your blood pressure by as much as 8 mmHg. The majority of salt in the American diet comes from restaurant food and pre-prepared foods.“   Note about half of us can be sensitive to large amounts of sodium. IMO if you are having high Blood Pressure problems cut out all your salt for a few weeks and see if it makes a difference.

"Avoid sodium (salt) intake. One third to one half of the people with hypertension are significantly benefitted by lowering salt intake"   Life Extension   Note this is yet another reason to avoid table salt and eat sea salt. It has 20% less sodium

"Diets high in potassium are associated with improved blood pressure control. There are several mechanisms contributing to this beneficial effect, including improved kidney function, reduction in blood clotting, and more efficient opening of blood vessels. Because of these important benefits, therapeutic diets aimed at improving blood pressure control often place primary focus on increasing potassium from foods. A good example of how foods rich in potassium can decrease elevated blood pressure is seen in the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet trials, where participants with high blood pressure who consumed an average of 8 to 10 total servings of fresh fruits and vegetables per day experienced significant drops in their blood pressure level."   WHF Potassium

“Some individuals simply need more calcium [potassium?] than others to keep their BP normal. Quite often these are people who are salt sensitive, their BP rises with average amounts, even less than average, of salt.”    Doctor David A, McCarron University of Portland

"I know that salt tastes great. In fact, I'm not against using salt for most people. But the salt should be either Himalayan pink salt or Celtic sea salt. The reason? Sea salt has the identical ratio of sodium and potassium as found in our bodies. It also has a near identical blend of trace minerals as well. If you use this type of salt, you'll protect yourself from the sodium by getting the other nutritional minerals we need at the same time. Most table salts have plenty of sodium, but little else. They don't offer the same protection." Doctor Robert Jay Rowen

"A large prospective Japanese study, researchers followed 58,730 people aged 40-79. They followed the group for 12 years. What they found could save your life. Those taking in the most potassium had a 35% reduced risk of coronary mortality and a 27% reduced risk of cardiovascular disease mortality compared to those in the lowest quintile intake. At the same time, those with the highest sodium intake had a 55% increased risk of total stroke-related mortality, a 104% increased risk of ischemic stroke mortality, and a 42% increased risk of total cardiovascular disease-related mortality." Doctor Robert Jay Rowen

"Research suggests increasing potassium intake may be just as important as decreasing sodium for optimal cardiovascular health." Archives of Internal Medicine Jan 2009

I am one of those salt sensitive. My blood pressure drops significantly when I get my salt intake below 1000 mg/day or so. In the summer when hiking and sweating I find I am "burning off" salt and must increase my intake. Try cutting out all salt for a month or two and see if this helps and you will know if you are salt sensitive.

IMO cut ALL salt  until all your edema (swelling) mostly seen in the ankles goes down and then keep your SEA SALT at about 500 mg  a day until you have your BP where you want it.

You need at least four times the Potassium as sodium in your body (See Banana Protocol). If you do not have this potassium your blood pressure may be high. The relationship between sodium, potassium, water, HBP and other factors  is complex.  The simplest thing is to ASSURE proper potassium, eating LOTS of RAW real food will assure this, If your blood pressure is still too high try cutting out all added salt, especially in fast and processed "foods".

BUT be Careful

Since the cause is not known, it is medically given a term called essential hypertension. In essence, we do not know the cause but are more than willing to treat the symptoms. More appropriately, high blood pressure should be considered a symptom, while the actual disease state could very well be sub-clinical dehydration. High blood pressure in such instances could be effectively cured with simply increasing water and [Sea} salt intake.” Doctor Michael Lam MD

"Some recent European research has concluded that an extra pinch or two of salt per day can help the elderly to stay healthy - and that fully 10% of older folks suffer from a sodium DEFICIENCY! This lack of sufficient daily salt can cause nervousness, hallucinations, muscle cramps, and even urinary incontinence.”    Doctor William Douglass MD

“You cannot compare the processed salt used in processed foods with natural, unrefined salt. So while I agree that steering clear of processed foods will help you reduce your stroke risk and improve your health in general, it's important to understand that you don't have to avoid ALL salt, just the processed kind (think regular table salt).”   Doctor Joseph Mercola MD

HBP can be caused by TOO LOW a salt level and/or too low a potassium level. SEA SALT please. Edema in your ankles can be a clue you have too high a salt level. IMO cut ALL salt  until all your edema (swelling) is gone then keep your SEA SALT between 500 mg and 1,000 mg a day until you have your BP where you want it.

Incidentally Edema anywhere can be a symptom of HBP and LOTS of other disease conditions. Get rid of it!

Make your HBP go away FAST

If you are a strong willed person and want to be rid of your HBP problem FAST then simply Consider a Week Fast. Unless you are an experienced faster you should get knowledgeable help on this fast. A five to seven day water fast has an 88% success rate for lowering HBP.

This tells me sodium or perhaps some other substance(s) has saturated a part(s) of your body, perhaps your arteries. The fast draws the substance(s) out and the copious water intake unimpeded by GI activity flushes it out of your body. I am guessing but some such mechanism has to be at work here.

Many top notch medical trials confirm that fasting can lower HBP. You can trade a week of no food for dangerous toxic drugs, onerous supervision, vast continuing expense, ill feeling misery, impotence, worry, fear, death and dependency. It does not sound like a difficult choice to me. But I fast all the time. IMO fasting just for a day or two at a time once in awhile is going to help, especially if you contemplate your HBP problem and its required solutions while on the fast. Make sure your urine is crystal clear as much of the HBP benefit of the fast is cleansing embedded sodium and other HBP elements from your body.

Exercise, exercise and exercise

Did I mention exercise? No kidding for many people exercise can work like magic for HBP. A long walk to unwind after work can relieve stress (See Stress Protection Protocol). Take along your grip exerciser and get in some double duty.

Assure Enough Magnesium

“Magnesium stimulates endothelial cells to produce nitric oxide a vasodilator.”  Nadler and Rude

“Magnesium inhibits the formation of blood clots. Magnesium inhibits the release of thromboxane a substance that makes blood platelets sticker and more likely to clot.” Doctor Jerry Nadler, City of Hope MC

“Heavy exercise also makes you lose magnesium in the urine and explains why long distance runners may suddenly drop dead with heart arrhythmias. Magnesium intake is most often marginal at best and heavy exercise is a factor that is particularly likely to expose athletes to magnesium deficit through metabolic depletion linked to exercise.” Doctor Sarah Mayhill

Cinnamon Combined With Magnesium Decreases Blood Pressure More Than Any Hypertension Medication In The World

Magnesium is absolutely essential to helping an artery to RELAX. Our often magnesium destructive life styles can destroy vast amounts of magnesium. Please make sure you have enough of the Blood Pressure essential magnesium.

Eat your DAILY RAW Beets

"Just a small amount of beetroot or beetroot juice can help reduce your blood pressure. When you eat it, the beetroot is mixed with your saliva and bacteria on your tongue. This combo turns into nitric oxide (NO2). It’s the chemical from the lining of your blood vessels that makes them expand. When NO2 gets to your stomach, another reaction occurs, and the nitrate is recirculated throughout your body. This recirculation is what causes your blood pressure to drop. You see the biggest drop 3-4 hours after eating beetroot. But the effects last for up to 24 hours. When these naturally produced nitrates are circulated through your body, your blood vessels relax. This lets your blood flow easier and reduces strain on your heart. The result is lower blood pressure."      Doctor Al Sears MD

Beets are an ace up your sleeve for HBP and LOTS of other heath problems: USE IT.

Assure Nitric Oxide Production

“Nitric oxide is needed for expansion and contraction of the arterial system.” Rohdewald

"In a controlled human study arterial blood flow improved by 37% following ingestion of standardized cocoa polyphenols and this persisted for about eight hours. A 36% decrease in undesirable platelet activation was also registered. The cocoa polyphenols appear to exert their beneficial effect by enhancing endothelial nitric oxide."   Life Extension, Note the increased NO production IMO also accomplished the blood platelet disaggregation

“A recent randomized, controlled clinical trial showed daily consumption of 6.3 grams of dark chocolate containing 30 mg of polyphenols can improve endothelial function, increase formation of vasodilative nitric oxide, and help maintain healthy blood pressure levels that are already within normal range.” Life Extension

"Nitric oxide appears to keep the the platelets in blood from clumping, which can further reduce heart disease risk."   Prevention

Nitric oxide (NO) is a chemical produced by all tissues of your body and plays a very important role in your cardiovascular system, including your blood pressure. NO is strongly produced by the endothelial cells of your arteries to help keep your circulatory system (See Circulation System Protocol) vessels supple and healthy.  Blood that is freely flowing will keep all your cells nourished and your arteries normally relaxed. NO greatly aids this process.

When you visit the Nitric Oxide protocol you will learn of the MANY ways to assure and improve your production of NO.

The DASH Approach to HBP

“A diet rich in fruit and vegetables was, in many cases as effective as medication in lowering BP.” DASH Study

"Quercetin is a powerful antioxidant that is off most doctors' radar screens. It's a bioflavonoid that's found in foods like apples, onions, red grapes, and leafy greens. In one study, researchers gave 22 people with high blood pressure quercetin for four weeks. At the end of the study, they showed significant improvement. The easiest way to get more quercetin is to eat more fruits and leafy green veggies. Otherwise, you can get a supplement at your local health-food store. I recommend 300 to 750 mg per day."   Doctor Robert Rowen MD, Note quercetin is of course a component of the Vitamin C Complex Components

“Of 42,000 women those who ate the most fruits and vegetables were the least likely to have HBP.” Alberto Ascherio Harvard

“A study of 31,000 middle aged and elderly men those who ate very little fruit were 46% more likely to develop HBP.” Harvard Study

"The INTERSALT trial of over 10,000 people in 32 countries found those with the lowest BP had the highest potassium levels and those with the highest BP had the lowest potassium levels."   Prevention

"Fruits and vegetables are naturally low in sodium and high in potassium."   Doctor Pao-Hwa Lin

“Too little potassium leads to sodium retention, which over time may trigger high blood pressure.” G. Gobal Krishna MD Temple University

A decrease of sodium, and an increase of potassium, magnesium and perhaps calcium intakes, with a lowering of sodium which are characteristic of the so called Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension diets, has proven to have an excellent HBP lowering effect. DASH accomplishes this by including a diet of mostly fresh fruits and vegetables and limiting salt. Since 75% of the average person’s salt comes from processed and junk food. I can think of an easy way to eliminate it.

I can attest to the requirement for magnesium. The only time my BP rises other than transitorily is when I am low on magnesium or have some other deficit.

You must eat a lot of potassium to assure good blood pressure. RAW fruits and vegetables are the best way to do this.

Control your emotions

"Most blood pressure drugs do not address the cause of the disease, which commonly are age-related changes in blood sugar or hardening of the arteries, resulting in inability of the blood vessels to dilate upon physical or mental exertion or stress.”  Bill Sardi

Suppose an individual spits on you. What is spit? Why do we get so mad? To stand there while being spat upon shows tremendous control. I am not there quite yet. But I aspire for that much control. One bonus of this or even much lesser control is often normal BP. Life is a dance that soon will be over; try to enjoy it, all aspects of it. Check your BP device when angry watch your BP fall as you cool off. Cool!

Weight

“Researchers at the University of Western Australia have just released the results of a study that clearly demonstrates that a weight-loss diet combined with daily fish consumption is highly effective in reducing blood pressure, lowering triglyceride levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels and in improving glucose tolerance. The combination of fish consumption and weight loss improved glucose and insulin metabolism significantly and also resulted in a 38% reduction in triglyceride levels and a 24% increase in the level of HDL. The researchers conclude that a combination of weight loss and daily fish consumption significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease among obese, hypertensive patients.”    Mori et al. Dietary fish as a major component of a weight-loss diet, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Vol. 70, November 1999, pp. 817-25

“Individuals who lost 7% of their starting weight lowered their HBP by 12/8.” University of Texas

“Losing an average of 23 pounds in two months dropped HBP 26/20. Blood pressure returned to normal for 2/3 of individuals.” NEJM

A cause of HBP is over weight. About 1/3 of HBP suffers are overweight. It’s not easy to lose weight (See Weight Loss Protocol) but you have to if you are overweight and are serious about getting your HBP back to normal without drugs. If you are overweight I urge you to make getting down to weight one of your FIRST goals

“By the time a person feels the symptom of dry mouth, the body is already in an advanced stage of dehydration from an optimum health perspective. One may not yet feel any gross physiological dysfunction, such as weakness or dizziness from lack of fluids. This is due to the body's many built in compensatory mechanisms such as constricting of the blood vessels to maintain blood pressure which prevents dizziness. Unfortunately, when such symptoms appear, as high blood pressure, it is often taken as a disease state in and of itself. Since the cause is not known, it is medically given a term called essential hypertension. In essence, we do not know the cause but are more than willing to treat the symptoms. More appropriately, high blood pressure should be considered a symptom, while the actual disease state could very well be sub-clinical dehydration. High blood pressure in such instances could be effectively cured with simply increasing water and salt intake.”  Doctor Michael Lam MD

“According to Dr. Batmanghelidjs, the body may use pain to warn us that dehydration is the basic cause of many illnesses, including: High Blood Pressure. High blood pressure can be a state of adaptation of the body to generalized chronic long-term dehydration. In a bid to fill blood vessels with volume, the body, through the constriction of the vascular system, forces the water from the vessel into the cell in order to deliver vital nutrients and oxygen.  An increased water intake (and salt) should be considered instead of the reverse in such cases.” Doctor Michael Lam MD

Should the amount of water (See Water Amount Protocol) in your body drop below a critical level your body will raise your BP. Most of us do not drink enough water. This problem is simple to fix. When your urine shows color drink a glass or two of good water. But remember the more water you drink the more potassium you must ingest. This is normally a problem as good  natural fresh food is LOADED with potassium and we are NOT eating good fresh food.

Get This Dirt Cheap Device AND Use It Daily

"A hand grip designed to keep fighter pilots from blacking out during sharp turns and steep dives has an interesting therapeutic benefit on the ground—lowering blood pressure without medication. Squeezing the grip for a few minutes a day has been shown to lower blood pressure as much as a first-line anti-hypertension drug."   Harvard Heart Letter, December 2006

“Both L-Arginine and forearm exercises increased the body’s vasodilatation by about 400% each and when added together by about 450%.” Hambrecht et al

Use it every day. You need some trust here because it’s just too simple, too cheap to be possible but at least three controlled clinical studies have shown that simple grip squeezing can lower your systolic pressure by up to 20 points. Do five minutes on each hand a day; IMO five or ten reps every couple of hours of so. I often squeeze mine off and on for hours as I walk. If you take supplemental L-Arginine (See L-Arginine Protocol) along with your grip exercises you get more benefit. Arginine relaxes your arteries and usually lowers HBP

Hypercoagulated Blood and HBP

“Another very important discovery, and one of the most recent, is that grounding thins your blood, making it less viscous. This discovery can have a profound impact on cardiovascular disease, which is now the number one killer in the world. Virtually every aspect of cardiovascular disease has been correlated with elevated blood viscosity. Dr. Sinatra has been coaching Dr. Oschman's team in how to measure blood viscosity using a method called zeta potential. It measures the potential on your red blood cells by determining how fast they migrate in an electrical field. It turns out that when you ground to the earth, your zeta potential quickly rises, which means your red blood cells have more charge on their surface, which forces them apart from each other. This action causes your blood to thin and flow easier. It also causes your blood pressure to drop.”   Doctor Joseph Mercola MD

Can merely going bare foot lower your blood pressure? Apparently it can.

Eat a RAW Beet Daily

Fish Oil is IMPORTANT

Cold water fatty fish and its fatty components including DHA and EPA, especially DHA,  has proven to be important to controlling blood pressure.

IMO take Fish Oil every day you do not eat fish. Fish oil is proven to lower HBP. 90% of us are deficient in EFAs (See EFA Protocol).

"Omega 3 may be the principal dietary polyunsaturated fatty acid related to blood pressure."   William Fischer

“Over sixty double blind studies have shown that both fish oil supplements or flaxseed oil are very effective in lowering HBP.” Murray & Pizzorno

"An extensive medical literature testifies to the fact that fish oils prevent and may help to ameliorate or reverse atherosclerosis, angina, heart attack, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease. Fish oils help maintain the elasticity of artery walls, prevent blood clotting, reduce blood pressure, stabilize heart rhythm and help combat inflammation. There is also considerable evidence that fish oil consumption can reduce the risk of breast and prostate cancer and help slow their progression. Daily supplementation with fish oils has been found effective in preventing the development of colon cancer  and has also been found to help combat depression.” Summaries of the latest research concerning the health benefits of fish and fish oil

“We found that while eating baked or broiled fish was linked to a slower but more powerful heart beat and lower blood pressure, eating fried fish was associated with heart muscle motion abnormalities, a reduced ejection fraction, lower cardiac output, and higher blood pressure.”  Mozaffarian, Am J Cardiology 2006 Jan, Note no fried food

“My own BP dropped from 140/90 to 120/70 after I started eating a small can of mackerel fillets a day. I found small amounts of fish oil as effective at lowering BP as the beta blocker drug Inderal. Inderal and fish oil reduced BP better than either alone.” Peter Singer Ph, D

“Fish oil supplements decrease triglycerides, LDL, and decrease HBP.” Toft et al

"Fish oil reduces high blood pressure and coronary artery disease – two of the top contributors to Heart Failure. If you have HF, be sure to get on the fish oil bandwagon. I would even suggest a higher dosage than what was used in the study. I recommend taking 2-4 g a day in divided doses. I've had excellent results with that higher dosage, and no problems.”    Doctor Steven Sinatra MD

High Blood Pressure and Sesame Seed

"For two months half were asked to use sesame oil as their only dietary oil. The consumption of sesame oil remarkably reduced the blood pressure. Systolic pressure dropped from 166 to 134, while diastolic fell from 101 to 85 ... and that is not all. they had lower blood levels of sodium and higher levels of potassium a sign of effective blood pressure management. they had a big drop of in the oxidation of blood fats the process that creates artery-clogging plaque and they had a large increases in blood levels of several artery-protecting antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase."  Indian Researchers   Note Here we see a wonder food to fight HBP. I see good results with about two or three heaping tablespoons a day

“Sesame seeds may be the oldest condiment known to man. They are highly valued for their oil which is exceptionally resistant to rancidity. … Not only are sesame seeds a very good source of manganese and copper, but they are also a good source of calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, vitamin B1, zinc and dietary fiber. In addition to these important nutrients, sesame seeds contain two unique substances: sesamin and sesamolin. Both of these substances belong to a group of special beneficial fibers called lignans, and have been shown to have a cholesterol-lowering effect in humans, and to prevent high blood pressure and increase vitamin E supplies in animals. Sesamin has also been found to protect the liver from oxidative damage.”   Sesame Seeds WHF

"Animal research points to the necessity of raising levels of gamma-tocopherol for vitamin E to function. Sesame Seeds are rich in gamma-tocopherol. In their study the researchers fed nine people muffins baked with either sesame seeds, walnuts or soy oil (other good sources of gamma-tocopherol). After three days only the sesame seed muffins "significantly elevated' blood levels of gama tocopherol."   Nutrition and Cancer

If you are having any problems with High Blood Pressure I strongly recommend adding a good amount of Sesame Seeds to your daily diet. I have had good results eating two or three teaspoons of sesame seeds daily.

Take DHA

“The recommended daily intake of EPA plus DHA is about 650 mg rising to 1000 mg/day during pregnancy and lactation. Clinical trials have used anywhere from 1 g/day to 10 g/day, but little additional benefit has been observed at levels above 5 g/day of EPA and DHA combined. The benefits of therapeutic supplementation may become evident in a few weeks when blood parameters (triglycerides, fibrinogen) are involved, but may take 3 months or longer to materialize in degenerative diseases like atherosclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.” Hans R. Larsen, MSc ChE

“An adequate intake of DHA and EPA is particularly important during pregnancy and lactation. During this time the mother must supply all the baby's needs for DHA and EPA because it is unable to synthesize these essential fatty acids itself. DHA makes up 15 to 20% of the cerebral cortex and 30 to 60% of the retina so it is absolutely necessary for normal development of the fetus and baby. There is some evidence that an insufficient intake of omega-3 fatty acids may increase the risk of premature birth and an abnormally low birth weight. There is also emerging evidence that low levels of omega-3 acids are associated with hyperactivity in children. The constant drain on a mother's DHA reserves can easily lead to a deficiency and some researchers believe that preeclampsia (pregnancy-related high blood pressure) and postpartum depression could be linked to a DHA deficiency. Experts recommend that women get at least 500-600 mg of DHA every day during pregnancy and lactation. The easiest way to ensure this intake is to take a good fish oil supplement daily.” Hans R. Larsen, MSc ChE

"Researchers from the University of Newcastle in New South Wales report that levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP), a marker of inflammation reported to be an independent predictor of cardiovascular-related events, are inversely related to blood levels of DHA and EPA."  Swanson Vitamins, Note less DHA more inflammation

"In a rats programmed for hypertension study ... Borage oil (GLA) feeding decreased blood pressure by 12 mmHg after three weeks and DHA lowered blood pressure by 34 mmHg after six weeks."  Kimura et al

"DHA has consistently proven to be more effective than EPA in lowering blood pressure in mildly hypertensive men."  Prisco et al 1998

DHA is an omega 3 fat found mainly in fish oil and is often lacking in the American diet. This lack of DHA has often been shown to be a factor in HBP and blood pressure often drops if DHA is added as a supplement.

Take CoQ10 Daily

“CoQ10 could eliminate the need for heart and BP medications for millions of Americans.” Dr. Peter Langsjoen and Dr. Karl Folkers

“CoQ10 deficiency has been found in 39% of patients with HBP.”  Murray & Pizzorno

“Typically diastolic and systolic blood pressures drop by about 10% with CoQ10 therapy.” Langsjoen et al

“More than half the HBP patients receiving 225 mg of CoQ10 a day were able to terminate from one to three of their HBP drugs.” Langsjoen et al

"About 50 percent of patients that come to me on high blood pressure meds have stopped taking them just by supplementing with CoQ10. A study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition confirms what I've seen in my own practice. Researchers gave CoQ10 to diabetic patients. Not only did their blood sugar improve, so did their blood pressure.3 This powerful and amazing antioxidant works by supplying your heart with the critical energy it needs to pump blood throughout your body. Without CoQ10, your heart would literally stop beating. I suggest you take 50 to 100 mg of the potent form of CoQ10 known as Ubiquinol."   Doctor Robert Rowen MD, Note WOW! take this one for SURE

"After only three months of supplementation, the researchers detected a trend towards reduced levels of a blood marker of heart failure severity that is released from over-worked heart muscle cells.1,2 At two years, significantly more treated patients had improved measurements of heart function than did placebo recipients.1 This impressive study demonstrates how CoQ10 offers important heart health benefits and how essential it is to cardiac patients. Ideally, the practice of cardiology will soon include CoQ10 as part of their protocol to improve the lives of those living with heart failure. There are many primary causes of heart failure.9,43 The most common include coronary artery disease and high blood pressure ..."    CoQ10 Proven Benefits In Heart Failure Patients

CoQ10 reduces angina and improves cardiac function. Dr. Peter Langsjoen and Dr. Karl Folkers have demonstrated in clinical studies that CoQ10 could eliminate the need for heart and blood pressure medications for millions of Americans.

CoQ10 is absolutely required if you are having any problems with HBP. Just look at what Doctor Sears has found in his clinic.

"Our Wellness Research Foundation has found that most people with high blood pressure have CoQ10 levels far below the average range. We have also found that virtually all patients are successful at achieving therapeutic blood levels by taking an oral CoQ10 supplement,"

Doctor Al recommends 100 mg of CoQ10; you can go higher if required.

Take Celery Seed

Take GLA

"GLA is a very potent blood-pressure-reducing nutrient." Engler et al 1998

"Because GLA obtained from dietary sources is more likely to convert to prostaglandin E1. Those who take supplements like borage oil should make sure the borage oil also contains at least 10 mg of standardized sesame lignans."   Life Extension, Note I just eat a table spoon of raw sesame seeds with my GLA supplements.

"Borage oil (GLA) significantly reduced stress-induced rises in systolic blood pressure and heart rate." Life Extension

Some of us lose the ability to convert omega 6 into GLA. IMO supplement GLA just in case.

Eat Celery and Celery Seed

“Celery has been used as a folk remedy to protect BP in Asian cultures since 200 BC.”  William J, Elliot University of Chicago

"Eating celery, as well as celery oil and celery seeds, helps to lower blood pressure by relaxing the smooth muscles in the blood vessels. Chomping on as few as four stalks of provides enough of the active ingredient, a compound known as3- butyphithaline, to reduce blood pressure."   Doctor Al Sears MD

"Increasing intakes of vitamin C rich foods, such as celery, led to less thickening of the carotid artery, thereby ensuring optimal blood flow and preventing atherosclerosis and subsequent heart disease.13"   Time to Celebrate Celery

"In an exciting new discovery, scientists have uncovered two natural extracts that have similar mechanisms to some of the most effective drug therapies for hypertension. Olive leaf extract has been shown to function as an ACE inhibitor and celery seed extract has potent calcium channel blocking properties.6,7 Clinical studies have demonstrated that both extracts are able to safely lower blood pressure.8,9 These specialized extracts offer a natural approach to blood pressure management."   Natural Extracts Lower Blood Pressure

Here is another simple thing that can pay big dividends for about one third of HBP suffers. Five stalks of raw celery a day can reduce your systolic pressure by up to 20 points. Celery contains a chemical you may be lacking that relaxes your arteries and lowers your stress (See Stress Protection Protocol) levels.

Eat some Flax Seed

“Over sixty double blind studies have shown that both fish oil supplements or flaxseed oil are very effective in lowering HBP.” Murray & Pizzorno

Flax seed is proven to successfully lower HBP. 90% of us are deficient in EFAs (See EFA Protocol). Flax supplies a LOT of omega 3 EFA, the component in EFA most lack,

Take Grape Seed Extract Daily

"Participants in the two groups receiving grape seed extract experienced an equal degree of reduced blood pressure. The average drop in systolic pressure was 12 mm. The average drop in diastolic pressure was 8 mm!"   Doctor Tissa Kappagoda

"Another benefit of improved blood flow is better erectile function in men. A dramatic study showed that a combination of L-arginine aspartate and Pycnogenol® intake for one month restored erectile dysfunction to normal, and doubled the frequency of intercourse.25 Along the way, cholesterol and blood pressure were also reduced."   Pycnogenol Benefits . Note GSE will probably supply this benefit also

"The cardiovascular health benefits of grape seed extract include favorable effects on blood pressure, enhanced endothelial function, and decreased oxidative stress.8 The potent antioxidant activity of grape seed extract may be responsible for its reported neuroprotective effects, as observed in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease.9,10 Recently, grape seed extract combined with calcium was found to be more effective than calcium alone in building healthy bone mass.11 Grape seed extract has effectively inhibited the growth of human colorectal tumor cells in the laboratory and in animals.12"   What Dose of Resveratrol Should Humans Take?

“Grape seed extract is known for its powerful antioxidant qualities. Grape seed extract also acts as a smooth muscle relaxant in blood vessels to combat hypertension.”  Life Extension

“OPC reduces edema and swelling which may be important in fighting HBP, congestive heart failure and sports injuries involving swelling.”  Jean Carper, Note Grape Seed Extract is a type of OPC

“OPC may help reverse HBP and its consequences. People with HBP commonly have weakened capillaries with high permeability. In animals prone to HBP OPC has strengthened capillaries.” Jean Carper

"GSE holds promise not only in preventing hypertension but also in fighting some of its deleterious effects such as kidney damage. GSE has many mechanisms to lower HBP."   Life Extension

GSE is good for so many things you should be taking it in any case.

Take some Arginine Daily

“Both L-Arginine and forearm exercises increased the body’s vasodilatation by about 400% each and when added together by about 450%.” Hambrecht et al

Note GSE will probably supply this benefit also  So what does this have to do with HBP not a lot really but I thought you might like to know. LOL

"Large artery elasticity index (LAEI) ... was significantly greater in patients treated with L-arginine than in the placebo group ... Systemic vascular resistance was significantly lower in patients treated with L-arginine ... This improvement was associated with a decrease in systolic blood pressure, peripheral vascular resistance as well as a decrease in aldosterone levels."   Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology June 7, 2010

“The effectiveness of L-Arginine for HBP relates to its ability to directly produce nitric oxide a vasodilator produced in the arteries.”  Brunini et al

"L-Arginine powder is well known and appreciated by bodybuilders because of its effects on nitric oxide production. Arginine is a pre-cursor to nitric oxide (NO), which is responsible for increasing the maximum oxygen transport capacity in the bloodstream."   L-Arginine Powder Overview

“Red meat and garlic work to help you keep the best blood flow possible. They do it by providing all the raw ingredients your body needs to keep your blood vessels open and flowing strong. One of the nutrients is arginine. The other nutrient is called citrulline. Citrulline turns into arginine in your body, and it’s better absorbed."    Doctor Al Sears MD, Note the Arginine is converted to Nitric Oxide which expands your arteries

“Arginine uses the two natural pathways into the brain to promote anti-aging properties, sports performance, and boost the immune system. Because L-arginine promotes healthy blood flow, it can also benefit human sexuality.” Arginine overcomes cardiovascular issues and reverses atherosclerosis[1]. Dr. Prendergast is proud to say that all his patients through the last 17 years have managed to not succumb to any strokes, heart attacks or even to diabetes. Arginine is used to treat conditions that improve with increased blood flow, such as chest pains, erectile dysfunction, clogged arteries, vascular disease and headaches, according to the Mayo Clinic.”   L-Arginine & Cancer

“L-Arginine produced a four fold increase in blood vessel dilation.”   Hambrecht et al

L-Arginine is so essential for blood pressure modulation that it is an unquestionable required nutrient in the entire circulatory process. Most people can make L-Arginine internally but many of us should IMO supplement to make sure there is enough to keep our BP low. If you are active physically your arginine requirements may be very high. I know mine often are that is why I routinely take 3 to 5 grams a day along with my whey, creatine and selected amino acids.

Eat some Garlic Daily

Image result for risks of blood pressure at 160/100

Eat some, a raw clove or so, garlic every day. Garlic is proven to lower HBP. Garlic is our number one food and supplement; it may help many of your problems that are indirectly causing your HBP.

"Members of Allium family, especially garlic and onion, have been used as traditional medicines to treat a variety of diseases, including common cold, arthritis, headache and heart diseases (Fenwick and Hanley 1985 Citation ). These beneficial effects have been attributed to their abilities to lower blood pressure (Loeper and Debray 1921 Citation ) or to inhibit platelet aggregation and thromboxane formation (Bordia 1978 Citation , Makheja el al. 1979 Citation , Srivastava 1986 Citation ). ...  On the contrary, boiled Welsh onion juice consumption was totally ineffective. In conclusion, consuming raw Welsh onion juice, but not boiled juice, has blood pressure lowering and antithrombotic effects in rats."   Chronic Consumption of Raw Welsh Onion Juice Inhibits Rat Platelet Function, Note this is an excellent study delineating MANY important health aspects

"Blood clots kill more than 600,000 Americans every year yet conventional medicine has largely ignored well-documented methods of reducing abnormal blood clot formation." Circulation Ahajournal, Note garlic addresses blood clots in MANY manners

“Garlic reduces risk factors in the genesis and progression of atherosclerosis; garlic decreases total cholesterol and LDL; increases HDL; reduces serum triglycerides and fibrinogen concentrations; lowers arterial blood pressure; inhibits platelet aggregation and reduces plasma viscosity.” Siegel et al 1999, Note WOW

“Clinical studies seem to be pretty much in agreement that there is something in garlic that helps prevent blood clotting.” Eric Block PhD SUNY Albany

“Of 432 heart disease patients half received two or three cloves of raw or cooked garlic per day, half none. After the first year there was no difference in the rate of heart attacks between the groups. In the second year the garlic eater’s death rate dropped 50% compared to the no garlic group and in the third year the garlic eater’s death rate dropped 66%. Both blood pressure and cholesterol dropped about 10% in the garlic group.” Doctor Arun Bordia Cardiologist

“Research shows that garlic compounds speed up blood clot dissolving activity and improve blood fluidity. This improves circulation and in fact helps “purify” the blood of unwanted elements.” Saarland University

“The leading cause of death in the western world is the formation of abnormal clots inside a blood vessel. It is important for healthy people to take steps to prevent this.” Life Extension, Note garlic addresses abnormal blood clots in MANY manners

“Garlic’s organosulphur compounds, allicin and diallyl disulphide (DADS) in this current in vitro study, allicin and DADS were found to activate perivascular sensory nerve endings, inducing the relaxation and enlargement of blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow throughout the body.”    Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences 2005

“An analysis of eight controlled studies showed that one to two raw garlic cloves a day lowered mild HBP an average 8 percent in one to three months.”   Doctor Andrew Neil Oxford

"Garlic contains sulfides that help relax your arteries. This lets blood flow more freely. In fact, a study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that garlic can relax blood vessel tension by an amazing 72 percent. For maximum benefit, eat one to two cloves of fresh garlic per day. If you'd rather use a supplement, choose one that gives you at least 3,600 mcg of allicin - garlic's active compound."   Doctor Robert Rowen MD

Have some Cocoa Every Day

“A recent randomized, controlled clinical trial showed daily consumption of 6.3 grams of dark chocolate containing 30 mg of polyphenols can improve endothelial function, increase formation of vasodilative nitric oxide, and help maintain healthy blood pressure levels that are already within normal range.”    Life Extension, Note WOW what an array of key health benefits from a delicious treat, just make sure to exclude the sugar and milk

"Chocolate eaters in a study of heart attack survivors had lower blood pressure and were less likely to die of heart disease, scientists in Sweden said. Of the 1,169 patients studied, those who ate chocolate two or more times a week cut their risk of dying from heart disease nearly threefold compared to those who didn't eat chocolate at all, said the study's lead author, Doctor Imre Janszky of Karolinska Institute. This study also suggested antioxidants in cacao cut the risk of death from heart disease in healthy older men and post-menopausal women,"  Life Extension, Note cocoa should work better

"Cocoa and the curry spice turmeric are other examples of natural antioxidants. Cocoa has been shown to directly benefit endothelial function and to lower blood pressure."  Doctor Michael Ozner MD

"Cocoa flavanols improve endothelial function by enhancing nitric oxide bioactivity,36 increasing blood flow,36 reducing the tendency of blood to clot,37 promoting already normal blood pressure levels,38 and helping LDL resist oxidation, which may contribute to the buildup of atherosclerotic plaque in artery walls.39 In a controlled human study, six weeks of cocoa consumption increased brachial artery hyperemic blood flow by up to 76% compared with baseline values.40 In a recent randomized controlled trial, healthy individuals with above-optimal blood pressure took small amounts of dark chocolate containing 30 mg of polyphenols as part of a usual diet. The cocoa polyphenols in the chocolate efficiently improved their blood pressure readings as well as plasma markers of vasodilative nitric oxide.41 The age-related depletion of nitric oxide is considered a major impediment to healthy arterial blood flow.     Life Extension

"In a study published in Journal of Proteome Research the Lausanne based researchers said their results show that eating dark chocolate daily reduced stress hormone levels in those who had high anxiety levels. The authors maintain that there is growing pool of evidence pointing to the potential health implications of dark chocolate constituents, with the flavonoids in cocoa linked to better cardiovascular health through the maintenance of low blood pressure, improved endothelial function, and a reduction in thrombotic, oxidative and inflammatory states."   Dark Chocolate Helps Reduce Stress    Note the less toxic powdered milk and toxic sugar the better

"In a controlled human study arterial blood flow improved by 37% following ingestion of standardized cocoa polyphenols and this persisted for about eight hours. A 36% decrease in undesirable platelet activation was also registered. The cocoa polyphenols appear to exert their beneficial effect by enhancing endothelial nitric oxide."    Life Extension

"I average about 1 ounce of dark chocolate daily for the past two years. No, I haven't gained any weight. Of course, I watch my diet fanatically. But, since adding chocolate, my blood pressure, which was at 95/65 two years ago, has actually fallen to a level I've never seen in an otherwise healthy adult: 84/56.”   Doctor Robert Rowen MD

According to the Spanish research, eating dark chocolate reduces damage to the blood vessels of cirrhotic patients and also lowers blood pressure in the liver. Dark chocolate contains potent anti-oxidants which reduce the post-prandial (after-meal) blood pressure in the liver (or portal hypertension) associated with damaged liver blood vessels (endothelial dysfunction). The data also showed that eating dark chocolate may exert additional beneficial effects throughout the whole body. In comparison, white chocolate, which contains no beneficial ‘phytochemicals’, did not result in the same effects."   Benefit Of Dark Chocolate For Liver Disease Patients, Note once again dump the sugar and milk and ONLY eat the healthful Cocoa

"Pooled analysis of all trials found that participants who received daily cocoa or chocolate for at least two weeks experienced a significant reduction in blood pressure compared with those who received a placebo. Further analysis determined that blood pressure was only lowered in those with hypertension or pre-hypertension, while those with normal blood pressure did not experience a significant reduction.”   Blood-Pressure-Lowering-Benefit-for-Dark-Chocolate

“Journal of the American College of Cardiology, found that daily cocoa flavonol consumption more than doubled the number of circulating angiogenic cells (CAC) in the blood. CACs have been shown to have vessel repair and maintenance functions, which can contribute to healthy blood vessels. The results showed that blood vessel function improved by 47% compared to low-flavonol consumption.”    Cocoa Repairs Blood Vessels, Note this is a KEY finding, couple CACs with 3 grams of vitamin C/day and your arteries will repair themselves

Effect of cocoa on blood pressure. Note cocoa tends to lower blood pressure

If you examine the above evidence it is almost impossible not to conclude Cocoa is an important food to lower blood pressure as well as help many other aspects of circulatory health. I find it neat that delicious Cocoa is so salubrious and is good for so many problems.

Take Olive Leaf Extract Daily

"In an exciting new discovery, scientists have uncovered two natural extracts that have similar mechanisms to some of the most effective drug therapies for hypertension. Olive leaf extract has been shown to function as an ACE inhibitor and celery seed extract has potent calcium channel blocking properties.6,7 Clinical studies have demonstrated that both extracts are able to safely lower blood pressure.8,9 These specialized extracts offer a natural approach to blood pressure management."   Natural Extracts Lower Blood Pressure

“Researchers recruited 20 pairs of identical twins with borderline hypertension. The twins from each pair were assigned to either placebo capsules or capsules containing 500 mg or 1,000 mg of olive leaf extract. By using identical twin pairs the researchers sought to eliminate some of the uncertainties caused by genetic variations between individual people. At the end of the eight-week intervention, the researchers reported a significant, 11/5, reduction in blood pressure in the twin receiving the high-dose supplement, compared to the placebo. In twin pairs where one received the lower dose olive leaf supplement, no significant changes were observed in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, compared to their baseline levels.”   Perrinjaquet-Moccetti et al, Note for HBP use at least two or three grams of OLE/day IMO

"Initial researchers found that the olive leaf extract (oleuropein) had the capacity to lower blood pressure in animals. Other European researchers confirmed this finding and determined that olive leaf extract also increased blood flow in the coronary arteries, relieved arrhythmias, and prevented intestinal muscle spasms."    Pharma Tech

"Olive leaf extracts fight endothelial dysfunction at multiple levels. They increase the production of nitric oxide, a signaling molecule that helps relax blood vessels. They reduce the production and activity of a class of molecules known as matrix metalloproteinases, or MMPs. Excessive MMP activity literally dissolves the gel-like matrix that holds cells together, making vessel linings increasingly vulnerable to plaque damage. They also help prevent the oxidation of LDL-cholesterol, which is one of the earliest events in developing atherosclerosis. Oxidized LDL triggers inflammation, further damaging arteries, and olive leaf extract has multi-targeted anti-inflammatory effects."   Unexpected Benefits of Olive Leaf Extract

"When tested on hypertensive patients in a double-blind controlled clinical study a highly stable form of oleuropein [ ] reduced systolic BP by an average of 11.5 points, diastolic BP by 4.8 points and provided other vascular health benefits. Oleuropein has been shown to specifically target arterial resistance and stiffness, improving endothelial function and bringing blood pressure under control."   Life Extension

1000 mg of OLE/day has been found to lower HBP . (See Olive Leaf Extract Protocol).

Take Vitamin C

No if ands or buts; at least 3 grams a day of the Vitamin C Complex Components.

"Both systolic and diastolic blood pressure declined significantly as the vitamin C level rose." Block et al

“People with low levels of vitamin C had higher levels of BP.” Salonen et al

“In a study of elderly people those who ate 60 mg of vitamin C daily were twice as likely to have HBP as those who ate 240 mg. There is something about not eating enough vitamin C that raises BP.” Paul F. Jacques Researcher USDA

“Vitamin C in doses of 500 mg daily has dropped significantly HBP in men and women.” Duffy et al

“In patients given 2000 mg of vitamin C two hours later Ultrasound clearly showed dilation of an artery in the arm had improved by 50% in most patients and even more in patients with the worst internal vascular dysfunction.” Doctor Balz Frei et al, Boston University

“Among people with HBP a daily dose of 1000 mg of vitamin C reduced BP about 7%.”    USDA

"Both systolic and diastolic blood pressure declined significantly as the vitamin C level rose."    Block et al

Vitamin C in sufficient amounts is ABSOLUTELY required for all circulatory function including blood pressure.

Take Vitamin D

The simple primal act of getting LOTS of the high noon sun on your bare “unprotected” skin in large amounts just may be the most important single thing you can do for your health. If the sun casts a shadow longer than you are tall you cannot make adequate vitamin D from the sun. You MUST take vitamin D3 at the daily rate of about 1000 IU/20 pounds of body weight.

Healthy Protocols is designed to help YOU PREVENT most disease in YOUR body. The Disease Prevention State is the beginning basis for all Disease Treatment. The information provided throughout this site should not be used during any medical emergency or for the diagnosis or treatment of any illness. Call 911 for all medical emergencies. A licensed integrative physician should be consulted for diagnosis and treatment of any and all illnesses you can not handle yourself (soon very few). You and your doctor should reach an informed consensus on diagnosis and treatment. It is incumbent on YOU to know enough about your illness to do this.
