"Niacin is a blanket term for a family of compounds with vitamin B3 activity. The terms "niacin" and "vitamin B3" can be used interchangeably, and whenever you find either term on our website, we are referring to the same group of compounds. There are several forms of Vitamin B3

"Nicotinamide—a form of vitamin B3—is a precursor to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), an essential coenzyme in ATP production. ... Research has confirmed nicotinamide’s DNA repair support. Scientists pretreated skin cells with nicotinamide and exposed them to low-dose simulated solar UV radiation. The nicotinamide significantly increased the number of cells undergoing DNA repairby removing and replacing damaged DNA and increasing the repair rate in each cell. ... Another study used cell culture melanocytes—pigmented skin cells—that can mutate into melanoma. As before, nicotinamide treatment led to a reduction in DNA-damage markers and exhibited evidence of enhanced DNA repair."   Oral Extract Prevents UV-Induced DNA Skin Damage

There are several forms of Vitamin B3, also called niacin. These forms include nicotinic acid and nicotinamide also called niacinamide. Part of the body's B3 supply comes from conversion of the amino acid tryptophan (See L-Tryptophan Protocol).

In its niacinamide form, vitamin B3 is useful in osteoarthritis (See Osteoarthritis Protection Protocol) and early-onset type I diabetes (See Diabetes Type 1 Protection Protocol); niacin is an effective reducer of high cholesterol levels. A pregnant (See Pregnancy Protection Protocol) woman should want to make sure her B3 levels are high to protect her unborn from type 1 diabetes.

A study evaluated 14 patients with high triglycerides, low HDL, and normal LDL levels. Seven received 1 gm of immediate release niacin three times daily plus 3.4 gm of omega-3 fish oil. The other seven received a placebo.  After only seven weeks, the treated patients had fantastic results. Their triglycerides dropped an average of 52% and their HDL raised 33%. The placebo patients had an average rise in triglycerides of 10% and HDL rose by only 4%.

IMO you want to be under a doctor’s care if you want to take more than a 500mg of B3 a day. Please note MOST people are unable to stay on the three grams/day. I assume it is the headache issue. I doubt I could; but taking 20 - 100 mg several times a week is quite doable. I make sure to take mine early in the day as the mild headache often gives me trouble sleeping.

It takes vitamin B3 to metabolize the foods you eat and processed foods are mostly stripped of vitamin B3. If you eat more than a little of this garbage be sure to eat Niacin-rich foods and supplements with extra vitamin B3 or your body will run out.

The time-released forms (See Time Released Supplements Protocol) of Vitamin B3 have been found harmful and are NOT recommended. Chicken, Tuna, Turkey, liver and Salmon  are good sources of Vitamin B3.

As you can see most of the high niacin foods are from the animal kingdom. Thus if you eat mostly a plant and fruit based diet it can be a challenge to get your daily 16 mg of niacin. I find I have to have a weekly schedule that includes niacin most days and take supplemental niacin to fill in the holes.

I use Niacinamide, 250mg two times per week taken with my chromium, as an osteoarthritis prophylactic, an HDL and HGH increaser and the numerous other benefits it provides. If you are not a heavy meat eater you probably are not getting adequate amounts of Vitamin B3 UNLESS you are trying to do this. Always get your Vitamin B Complex with any individual B Vitamin

First of course always try to get ALL your B complex vitamins in FOOD. RAW Green leafy vegetables are IMO the best way.

Always also assure the complete B complex vitamins when you take an individual B vitamin. This is because many of the B vitamins require one or more of the other B vitamins to be utilized by your body so a shortage of any B vitamin can affect all B vitamins. I try to assure my  B complex most days together with 800 micro grams of Folic Acid, a Vitamin B3 supplement and 5 mg of Biotin . This is insurance, VERY cheap insurance.  

The best way to do this is a very large salad with lots of raw GREEN LEAFY vegetables
