Oranges are a favorite American fruit and reputed for supplying vitamin C. However if you eat the orange peel you can TRIPLE your vitamin C from that orange, as well as more than triple the nutrients you obtain from the orange. Orange peels supply many very salubrious required nutrients as you will see below.

In addition to oranges' phytonutrients, vitamin C and fiber, they are a good source of thiamin, folate, beta-carotene, potassium and calcium.

I had discovered the many benefits of hesperidin and was looking into supplementing. Then BINGO I found I could get this wonderful molecule for FREE in citrus and especially in Oranges.

Hesperidin contained in the Whole citrus fruits, especially the Orange peel, is an easy way to get your REQUIRED AMPK and start to work on ridding your body of the very pernicious Belly Fat. Just find a way to eat all the internal flesh and integuments of the fruit and as much of the white and other rind as you are able. Throwing the WHOLE chopped up fruit, peels seeds and all in a blender works great; try it.

I have found religiously eating a whole orange/day certainly helps lower my blood pressure.

The orange peel is quite easy to eat; simply find a small to medium orange; wash it well and quarter it or eighth it WHOLE; and eat, NO laborious peeling required. I try to religiously eat one WHOLE orange a day as part of my daily vitamin C ingestion, Some oranges have peels that give me a mild digestive upset; so I do not buy these oranges.

I have always believed in eating the skins and seeds of the fruit and many vegetables I eat every day but the revelation hit that the Citrus Fruit is no exception. Many of you may have issues digesting some of the citrus peels so start low go slow. I cannot usually eat a LARGE whole orange; large oranges I cut in half and eat over two days.

    

Eat the WHOLE Orange, Especially the PEEL to get the Hesperidin and Hundreds of other nutrients not found in the flesh

Note if you make a slurry by blending the complete orange; drink ALL of the somewhat bitter slurry; discard NOTHING; add some water to make a less thick slurry. You will quickly appreciate the somewhat different taste.

"Even though the juicy flesh of fruit contains some fiber, most of the fiber is found in the peel. So whenever possible eat fruits and vegetables with the skin intact."   Prevention

Most of the goodies like the flavonoid (See Flavonoid Protocol) hesperidin, limonin, limonene, limonin glucoside in an orange are in the skin, white and colored rind (See Citrus Peel Extract Protocol). When I eat a fresh orange often I wash it completely, dry it, cut off the imperfections on the skin and cut a slice or the WHOLE orange into very SMALL pieces and put it in a shake or put it in my tea. I also split the orange into sections which include the skin and eat both the skin and flesh at the same bite. This trick works with most foods when you want to eat the skin and you usually do want to eat the nutrient rich skin of most fruit and vegetables.

Caution: I find I can only eat about one whole large orange a day without digestive upset so you may be able to eat less or more. Start low go slow. Start with a quarter and work up. The small thin skinned oranges I can eat like apples.

Many of our most important nutrient rich foods are somewhat difficult to digest and must be limited in quantity eaten per day; garlic and onions come to mind.

The World Health Organization's recent draft report, "Diet, Nutrition and the Prevention of Chronic Disease," concludes that a diet that features citrus fruits also offers protection against cardiovascular disease due to citrus fruits' folate, which is necessary for lowering levels of the cardiovascular risk factor, homocysteine; their, potassium, which helps lower blood pressure, protecting against stroke and cardiac arrhythmias; and the vitamin C, carotenoids and Flavonoids found in citrus fruits, all of which have been identified as having protective cardiovascular effects.

 An orange has over 170 different phytonutrients and more than 60 Flavonoids, many of which have been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and blood clot inhibiting properties, as well as strong antioxidant effects.

     

Citrus Fruit and Good Health

If you read this protocol and its Associated Citrus Protocols you will see Citrus Fruit can be an important part of your preventative health and treatment health. Just make sure you eat at least one piece of citrus and most or all of its  peel/day. Commercial fruit juice is not good. Even if you juice your own oranges you are THROWING away most of the nutrients.
